NEWPORT—Dr. Blane Tarr, O.D. is pleased to announce the opening of Tarr Family Eyecare.

Dr. Tarr has been caring for the vision and eye health of patients in Newport and the surrounding areas since 2012. Dr. Tarr graduated from the University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Optometry in 2006 and immediately began Active Duty with the United States Army.

He served four years on Active Duty as a Captain in the Medical Service Corps at Ireland Army Community Hospital in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He spent his days in the military taking care of the eyes of soldiers and basic trainees.

Upon completion of his Active Duty obligations, he returned home to East Tennessee to care for the eyes of friends, family and neighbors. Dr. Tarr provides primary eye care and specialty care at Tarr Family Eyecare for medical eye conditions such as glaucoma, macular degeneration, dry eye syndrome and diabetes. He also treats infections and urgent eye problems.

Dr. Tarr was born and raised in Jefferson County, Tennessee. He has a deep and abiding love for all things Tennessee, especially the mountains, the beauty of the colorful fall foliage, and University of Tennessee Football.

He brings knowledge of cutting-edge technology and experience to the new practice in order to provide the highest possible level of eye care for residents of Newport and the surrounding areas.

His goal is to make a comfortable, convenient, caring practice accessible to everyone. According to Dr. Tarr, “The threats to healthy vision are multiplying each year and seem to be showing up in eyes at younger and younger ages. Many people have chronic diseases that affect the eyes, like diabetes and high blood pressure, and a very large part of why I have relocated is to provide more personal and comprehensive care to residents of the Newport area by working alongside primary care physicians and ensuring that these health conditions don’t end up reducing the vision from those who suffer with them. My goal is to make sure that every member of every family has personal, comprehensive care for their eyes and vision.”

When Dr. Tarr is not actively caring for the vision of his patients, he can usually be found buried under a pile of children. He and Kelly, his wife of 15 years, have their hands full chasing their five children around the house. Dr. Tarr also is very involved with his church where he serves as a deacon. When there are moments left over, he enjoys reading and watching football.

Tarr Family Eyecare is currently scheduling new patients for examinations with Dr. Tarr at the new office located on Highway 25/70 between Stinnett Chevrolet and Victory Lanes across the road.

Feel free to call (423) 720-9393, or come by to schedule an appointment.
