Church of the Week

Every Thursday, the Newport Plain Talk features a local “Church of the Week,” complete with a sketch of its history and a photo. Northport Baptist Church

Everyone is invited to a special celebration at Northport Baptist Church, 488 Duncan St., on Sunday, June 30, at 10 a.m. when the church will celebrate its 50th year as a self-supporting church. All former pastors, RA’s, GA’s, Actions, Mission Friends, and former church members are especially invited for this great celebration. Brother Tony Rutherford, a former pastor, will bring the morning sermon.

Northport Baptist Church

Classes for all ages will be offered at Vacation Bible School at Northport Baptist Church, 488 Duncan Street, from June 24-28. Hours will be 5:30—8:00 p.m. each night. All are welcome.

Memorial Baptist Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Memorial Baptist Church, 221 W. Broadway, July 7-11 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. each night. This year’s theme is “In the Wild.” Also, the Teen Challenge Choir will be singing at the church’s evening service on Sunday, June 30, at 6:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to all these special events.

Newport Church of God

All veterans will be honored at Newport Church of God on Sunday, June 30 during the 11:00 a.m. service. All veterans in attendance who bring proof of military service will be presented a $20 gas card. The church is located at 407 Old Knoxville Hwy., Newport, (behind Osaka). Grace Baptist Church, Sevierville

Gerald Whitely will speak on “Creation” at Grace Baptist Church, 2539 Newport Hwy., Sevierville on the following dates: Thursday and Friday, June 27-28, from 6:30—9:00 p.m., Saturday, June 29, from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., and Sunday, June 30, at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. For more information, call 865-453-0522.

Hill’s Union United Methodist Church

All are invited to the 140th anniversary celebration at Hill’s Union United Methodist Church, 2383 Hill’s Chapel Road, Dandridge. The celebration will begin Saturday, June 22, at 2 p.m. in the gazebo with special gospel music by The Believers and Deeper Faith. Guest speaker will be Rev. Mickey Rainwater, a church native. Long Creek Christian Church

Gospel singing at the Long Creek Christian Church Barn will be held Saturday, June 15, at 6:30 p.m. Featured groups this month include Foothills Quartet, New Birth, and Stone Mountain Band. Bring a lawn chair for an evening of outdoor gospel singing. In the event of bad weather, the singing will be held inside the barn. The church is located at 3310 Sane Road, in the Long Creek community. All are welcome.

Brown’s Chapel Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Brown’s Chapel Church, 1049 Brown’s Chapel Road, Parrottsville, June 17-21 from 7:00—9:00 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is “Giddyup Junction.” Commencement will be held Sunday, June 23, at 6:00 p.m. Pastor Randall Frisbee and congregation invite all to attend.

Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church

Classes for all ages will be offered at Vacation Bible School at Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church June 17-21. Hours will be 6:30—8:30 p.m. nightly. This year’s theme is “Giddyup Junction.” Meals will be served each night. Pastor Glen Ball and congregation invite all to join them.

Liberty Hill United Methodist Church

The Liberty Hill United Methodist Women’s Service Club and Church will hold a fundraising indoor yard sale on Thursday—Saturday, June 13-15 from 7:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. each day, rain or shine. Household goods, kitchen items, crafts, appliances, furniture, toys, holiday decorations, and more will be offered. The church is located at the corner of Old Snapps Ferry Road and Graysburg Hills Road, 13 miles from Greeneville.

Newport Seventh-day Adventist Church

On Saturday, June 15, Newport Seventh-day Adventist Church will host its monthly program of gospel/bluegrass singing and playing at 7 p.m. The church is located at 125 Hedrick Drive, across from Cocke County High School. Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Gospel Light Freewill Baptist Church, 141 Carpenter Rd., Parrottsville June 24-28 starting at 5 p.m. daily. This year’s theme is “We Are The Children.” Classes for all ages will be offered. Pastor Phillip Bailey and congregation welcome all to attend.

Forest Hill Baptist Church

Pastor Michael Vickers and the Forest Hill Baptist Church congregation invite all to join them at SonQuest Rainforest, this year’s Vacation Bible School June 24—28, from 6:00—8:30 p.m. nightly. New Bethel Free Will Baptist Church

“The Life of David” is the theme of this year’s Vacation Bible School at New Bethel Free Will Baptist Church, Hwy. 160, Newport. The dates are June 24 through June 28, from 7:00—8:30 p.m. nightly. Pastor Willie Winters and congregation invite all ages to attend.

Newport Seventh-day Adventist Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Newport Seventh-day Adventist Church, 125 Hedrick Dr., (across from Cocke County High School) Monday—Friday, June 10-14 from 6:00—8:30 p.m. nightly. East TN Baptist Association

The East Tennessee Baptist Association is celebrating its 180th anniversary this year. A special reception will be held Sunday, July 7, at First Baptist Church, from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Centerview Missionary Baptist Church

All are invited to a one-day Vacation Bible School at Centerview Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy. 160, on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The theme is “Fixer Upper: See What God Can Do.”

East TN Baptist Association

All Cocke County churches are invited to share in free packets of materials for your congregations to deliver throughout the community to spread the word of Christ. You can add a flyer or card with your church information to each packet. Every denomination is encouraged to join in this effort. Prayer meetings at Cocke County Courthouse

East Tennessee Baptist Association has prayer meetings on the Cocke County Courthouse steps the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call 423-623-8220

Parrottsville United Methodist Church

Parrottsville United Methodist Church has a clothes closet every Saturday from 9-12 in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Free clothes for all ages will be available. Donations to the clothes closet should be dropped off on Saturdays from 9-12. The closet is closed on Saturdays before holidays. All are welcome.

Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church

The Chestnut Hill Clothes Closet, Dandridge, is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Free seasonal clothes will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Dandridge food pantry and thrift store

The Dandridge Ministerial Association food pantry, 910 Industrial Road, Dandridge, is open for emergency food on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. The thrift store is open Mondays—Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The store offers a wide variety of gently used, clean items for sale. A $5 bag sale of every day clothing is underway. In addition to clothing, they also have furniture, glassware, toys, linens, electrical appliances, and many other home items. For more information, call Ginger Patrick (865-397-1833).

Pay It Forward Outreach Ministries
