Every Thursday, the Newport Plain Talk features a local “Church of the Week,” complete with a sketch of its history and a photo. Wilsonville Missionary Baptist Church

Will be having Homecoming services this Sunday the 15th with services starting at 10am. The Smith Family will be singing and Bro. Barry Warren will provide the message. Everyone is invited to come out.

Mt. View Baptist Church

Will have their monthly singing on Saturday, Sept. 14 at 7 p.m. Daniel Sizemore will be singing at the event. Pastor Carroll Miller and congregation invites everyone to attend.

Newport Presbyterian Church

Seven local churches are partnering to present “Life of Christ: Six Scenes from Birth to Crucifixion” on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15 from 6:00—8:00 p.m. (weather permitting). Memorial Baptist Church, Northport Baptist Church, West End Baptist Church, Open Door Union Church, Faith, Hope, & Love Family Church, and Centerview Missionary Baptist Church will join host Newport Presbyterian Church, 399 Hedrick Drive, Newport (behind Cocke County High School) for the event. The presentations will be presented continuously from 6:00—8:00 p.m. All are invited.

Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church

Homecoming will be celebrated at Ebenezer Missionary Baptist Church, Old 15th Road, Del Rio, on Sunday, Sept. 29, starting at 10 a.m. Spirt of the Smokies will provide special music, and Rev. Caney Caldwell will bring the message. Dinner on the ground will follow. Pastor Matthew Fox and congregation welcome all to attend.

Glendale United Methodist Church

All are invited to Glendale United Methodist Church’s Lord’s Acre Sale on Saturday, Oct. 19. A Southern fried chicken dinner will be served from 11:30—1:00 p.m. and the popular auction will start at 1:00 p.m. Featured auction items include an Amish hand-stitched quilt, locally made hand-stitched quilts, handmade quilted Christmas stockings, baked goods, word wall decor, handmade dolls, home-canned goods, and much more. The church is located at 3315 Glendale Rd., Bybee.

Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church

All are invited to homecoming at Old Time Gospel Missionary Baptist Church, Newport, on Sunday, Sept. 15, starting at 10 a.m. Special music will be brought by The Overhome Boys from Mooresburg. Rev. Doug Messer will bring the message. Pastor Glenn Ball and congregation welcome all to attend.

Jones Chapel United Methodist Church

There will be a Lord’s Acre Sale at Jones Chapel United Methodist Church, Del Rio, on Saturday, Sept. 14. From 11:00—12:00, a soup bean dinner will be sold. Cost is $3 for adults and $1.50 for children. An auction will follow. Pastor Charlie Williams and congregation invite all to enjoy the day.

Mt. View Baptist Church

Homecoming will be celebrated at Mt. View Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 15, starting at 10 a.m. Special music will be provided by the Smith Family. Following a covered dish dinner, there will be more singing and preaching. Pastor Carroll Miller and congregation invite all to attend. There will be no evening service.

English Creek Baptist Church

Everyone is invited to celebrate homecoming at English Creek Baptist Church on Sunday, Sept. 15, with assembly at 10 a.m. Special music will be provided by A Brand New Me. Lunch will be served following the worship service. For more information, contact Wilma Bryant (423-623-9763).

Leadvale Missionary Baptist Church

Will be holding REVIVAL on Sunday, September 15th through Wednesday, September 18th. The speaker will be Dr. Hollie Miller who has served as Senior Pastor of Sevier Heights Baptist Church in Knoxville for the past 31 years. Times: Sunday, 9/15, 10:40 a.m. and 6 p.m., Monday — Wednesday at 7 p.m., 9/16 — 9/18. Leadvale is located at 875 Leadvale Church Road, White Pine, 37890. Everyone is welcome.

Centerview Missionary Baptist Church

Homecoming will be celebrated at Centerview Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy. 160, on Sunday, Sept. 15. Morning services start at 10:00 a.m. Pastor Dennis Alder will bring the message, and lunch will follow. New pastor Phillips Biggs and congregation invite all to attend.

Bruner’s Grove United Methodist Church

The annual Lord’s Acre Sale at Bruner’s Grove United Methodist Church, 2416 Knob Creek Road, Bybee, will be held Saturday, Sept. 21. Carryouts for lunch will be available starting at 11:00 a.m.; dine in starting at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 12 and under. The popular auction will start at 1:00 p.m. Items for sale include quilts, baby quilts, canned goods, wreaths, crafts, garden products, antiques, firewood, and numerous other selections. Holder’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church

Holder’s Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Cosby, will hold its annual church picnic at Cosby Campground on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 5:30 p.m. Everyone is cordially invited to both events. Randall Freeman and the church congregation welcome all.

East TN Baptist Association

All Cocke County churches are invited to share in free packets of materials for your congregations to deliver throughout the community to spread the word of Christ. You can add a flyer or card with your church information to each packet. Every denomination is encouraged to join in this effort. Prayer meetings at Cocke County Courthouse

East Tennessee Baptist Association has prayer meetings on the Cocke County Courthouse steps the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call 423-623-8220

Parrottsville United Methodist Church

Parrottsville United Methodist Church has a clothes closet every Saturday from 8-11 in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Free clothes for all ages will be available. Donations to the clothes closet should be dropped off on Saturdays from 8-11. (Please note change in hours of operation.) The closet is closed on Saturdays before holidays. All are welcome.

Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church

The Chestnut Hill Clothes Closet, Dandridge, is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Free seasonal clothes will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Dandridge food pantry and thrift store

The Dandridge Ministerial Association food pantry, 910 Industrial Road, Dandridge, is open for emergency food on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. The thrift store is open Mondays—Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The store offers a wide variety of gently used, clean items for sale. A $5 bag sale of every day clothing is underway. In addition to clothing, they also have furniture, glassware, toys, linens, electrical appliances, and many other home items. For more information, call Ginger Patrick (865-397-1833).
