Every Thursday, the Newport Plain Talk features a local “Church of the Week,” complete with a sketch of its history and a photo. Newport Church of God

On Wednesday, May 29, Newport Church of God will host an Out of School Bash. There will be games, food, inflatables, a color run and an Apple Airpods giveaway. The event will last from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Dutch Bottoms Baptist Church

The fourth Sunday night singing at Dutch Bottoms Church will take place on May 26 at 6 p.m. Pastor Mike Strange and congregation invites everyone to attend.

Basinger Chapel Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Basinger Chapel Church, 1148 Basinger Hollow Rd., on June 3-7 from 6:00—8:00 p.m. each night. This year’s theme is “Journey Through God’s Universe.” Classes for all ages will be offered. Allen’s Missionary Baptist Church

The Martins will be singing at Allen’s Missionary Baptist Church, Dark Hollow Road, Cosby, on Sunday, May 26, at 7 p.m. Pastor Leon Large and congregation welcome all to attend.

Bogart Chapel United Methodist Church

Homecoming will be celebrated at Bogart Chapel United Methodist Church, 2289 Rainwater Road, Dandridge, on Sunday, June 2. Lunch will follow the morning worship service at 12:00 noon. Afterwards, Decoration Day services will be held at the nearby Strange Cemetery. All are invited.

Mt. View Baptist Church

Brother Robert Gibson will be preaching at Mt. View Baptist Church on Sunday, May 26, during the 10 a.m. morning worship service. Pastor Carroll Miller and congregation invite all to attend.

East TN Baptist Association

The East Tennessee Baptist Association is celebrating its 180th anniversary this year. A special reception will be held Sunday, July 7, at First Baptist Church, from 2-4 p.m. Everyone is invited.

Oven Creek United Methodist Church

Rev. Mark Barber and congregation invite all to the annual Decoration Day service at Oven Creek United Methodist Church, Parrottsville, on Sunday, May 26. Lunch will be served at noon. All are welcome.

Cosby Missionary Baptist Church

Homecoming will be held at Cosby Missionary Baptist Church on Sunday, May 26, with featured singer Carol Martin bringing special music. Pastor Cleo Williamson and congregation invite all to attend.

Hill’s Union United Methodist Church

The annual homecoming celebration at Hill’s Union United Methodist Church will be held Sunday, May 26 with gospel singing by The Supernals at 10:30 a.m. Worship service starts at 11:45 a.m. with Rev. Darrell Chambers bringing the message. A covered dish dinner will follow in the church fellowship hall. The church is located at 2383 Hills Chapel Road, Dandridge. All are invited.

Garvers Chapel Church

Vacation Bible School will be held at Garvers Chapel Church, Cosby, June 4-7, with classes for all ages being offered. All are invited.

Centerview Missionary Baptist Church

All are invited to a one-day Vacation Bible School at Centerview Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy. 160, on Saturday, June 15, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The theme is “Fixer Upper: See What God Can Do.”

East TN Baptist Association

All Cocke County churches are invited to share in free packets of materials for your congregations to deliver throughout the community to spread the word of Christ. You can add a flyer or card with your church information to each packet. Every denomination is encouraged to join in this effort. Open Door Church

Members of Open Door Church in Reidtown will celebrate their church’s 100th anniversary at this year’s homecoming service on Sunday, May 26. Pastor Delbert Raines and wife Peggy from Maryville will be special guests and he will deliver the message. Anyone having old photos of the church, its early members, and church events is asked to bring them to share. Members are looking for a picture of the original church building. Former members planning to attend are asked to call Linda Blair (423-623-6685). Pastor Jerry Raines and Sister Shirley Raines, along with the church congregation, invite all to attend.

Prayer meetings at Cocke County Courthouse

East Tennessee Baptist Association has prayer meetings on the Cocke County Courthouse steps the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call 423-623-8220

Parrottsville United Methodist Church

Parrottsville United Methodist Church has a clothes closet every Saturday from 9-12 in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Free clothes for all ages will be available. All are welcome. To schedule an appointment outside normal operating hours or for more information, call 423-623-5180.

Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church

The Chestnut Hill Clothes Closet, Dandridge, is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Free seasonal clothes will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Dandridge food pantry and thrift store

The Dandridge Ministerial Association food pantry, 910 Industrial Road, Dandridge, is open for emergency food on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. The thrift store is open Mondays—Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The store offers a wide variety of gently used, clean items for sale. A $5 bag sale of every day clothing is underway. In addition to clothing, they also have furniture, glassware, toys, linens, electrical appliances, and many other home items. For more information, call Ginger Patrick (865-397-1833).

Pay It Forward Outreach Ministries
