Every Thursday, the Newport Plain Talk features a local “Church of the Week,” complete with a sketch of its history and a photo. Del Rio First Church of God

Homecoming will be celebrated at Del Rio First Church of God on Sunday, August 4, starting at 11 a.m. The gospel group, “The Eventide,” will be featured in concert. Following the service, dinner will be service. All are invited.

Mt. Zion Baptist Church (Cosby)

All are invited to Homecoming at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Cosby Cut-off Road, on Sunday, August 4, with The Virgil Webb Family bringing special music during the 10:30 a.m. morning service. Brother Richard Webb will be preaching. Lunch will follow the morning service. Pastor Robert Williamson and congregation welcome all to attend.

Black’s Chapel Baptist Church

Homecoming will be celebrated at Black’s Chapel Baptist Church, Hartford, with special music brought by The Carson Creek Singers on Sunday, August. 4, during the morning service. Lunch will be served afterwards. Rev. Danny Greene and congregation welcome all to attend.

Brown’s Chapel Church

Special music will be brought to Brown’s Chapel Church, Parrottsville, on Sunday, August 4, at 6:00 p.m. by Threads of Faith. Pastor Randall Frisbee and congregation cordially invite all to join them for this special event.

Newport Presbyterian Church

In partnership with eight other churches, Newport Presbyterian Church is bringing a unique experience to Newport in September. Those attending will be able to walk through Biblical scenes representing some of the most influential events in the life of Jesus culminating in a heartbreaking choral rendition of the Crucifixion and Resurrection. Come and experience how the Son of God lived during His time on earth. The event is planned for Sept. 13-14 at Newport Presbyterian Church, Hedrick Drive (overlooking Cocke County High School).

Southside Baptist Church

King’s Cadence will be presented in concert at Southside Baptist Church, 232 Southside Circle, Newport, on Sunday, Aug. 11, during the 10:45 a.m. service. Dr. Don Smith, pastor, and congregation invite all to attend.

Cornerstone Baptist Church

There will be an indoor yard sale at Cornerstone Baptist Church (beside Little Caesar’s) on Saturday, Aug. 3, starting at 8 a.m. All proceeds will benefit The Isaiah 117 House, Cocke County, TN.

First United Methodist Church

The annual yard sale held by First United Methodist Church will be held Saturday, Aug. 10, from 8 a.m. until noon at the corner of Lincoln Avenue and Third Street. A variety of items will be offered with proceeds going to local missions.

ET Methodist Men’s Club:

The East Tennessee Methodist Men’s Club will hold a country breakfast at Lawson’s Chapel United Methodist Church, 2722 Indian Creek Rd., Dandridge, on Saturday, Aug. 3, from 8:00—10:00 a.m. The menu includes eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits, gravy, pancakes, juice, and coffee, all for a $5 donation. East TN Baptist Association

All Cocke County churches are invited to share in free packets of materials for your congregations to deliver throughout the community to spread the word of Christ. You can add a flyer or card with your church information to each packet. Every denomination is encouraged to join in this effort. For more information or to schedule a time to come by and pick up these materials, call the ETBA office at 423-623-8220.

Prayer meetings at Cocke County Courthouse

East Tennessee Baptist Association has prayer meetings on the Cocke County Courthouse steps the first Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. All are welcome. For more information, call 423-623-8220

Parrottsville United Methodist Church

Parrottsville United Methodist Church has a clothes closet every Saturday from 9-12 in the church’s Fellowship Hall. Free clothes for all ages will be available. Donations to the clothes closet should be dropped off on Saturdays from 9-12. The closet is closed on Saturdays before holidays. All are welcome.

Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church

The Chestnut Hill Clothes Closet, Dandridge, is open every Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until noon. Free seasonal clothes will be available. Everyone is welcome.

Dandridge food pantry and thrift store

The Dandridge Ministerial Association food pantry, 910 Industrial Road, Dandridge, is open for emergency food on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10 a.m. until noon. The thrift store is open Mondays—Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The store offers a wide variety of gently used, clean items for sale. A $5 bag sale of every day clothing is underway. In addition to clothing, they also have furniture, glassware, toys, linens, electrical appliances, and many other home items. For more information, call Ginger Patrick (865-397-1833).

Pay It Forward Outreach Ministries
