NEWPORT—Cocke County High School Guidance Counselor Crystal McGaha has announced registration and schedule pick-up dates for the coming school year.
All students are to report to CCHS on Friday, Aug. 2, by 8:15 a.m. for their first day of school. Dismissal will be at 1:00 p.m. Both breakfast and lunch will be served. Buses will be running. For more information about bus schedules, call the Cocke County Bus Garage at 423-623-2757.
Any new CCHS students who have not pre-registered may do so Wednesday through Friday, July 24-26 between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. CCHS counselors will be on hand to enroll any incoming students who are new to the area and any incoming ninth graders who did not participate in high school registration at their elementary schools last spring.
A custodial parent or legal guardian must come to the CCHS counseling office to complete/submit the necessary paperwork to register their child for enrollment. The main items requested for enrollment at CCHS include the following:
1) an official transcript from a previous high school, OR, if student is entering as a first-time freshman, documentation verifying student’s promotion to the ninth grade
2) copies of the student’s birth certificate and Social Security card
3) a TN certificate of immunization
4) TWO separate proofs of residency in the parent/guardian’s name: examples include utility bill, lease, etc.
5) IF APPLICABLE, a copy of custodial documentation
6) IF APPLICABLE, an IEP/Psychological for students receiving special education services
All official school records submitted by the parent must come in a sealed envelope from the previous school OR the CCHS counseling office can request the records be submitted directly to them from the previous school.
Regarding schedules for CCHS students in grades 10-12 for the 2019-2020 school year, students who want to see their schedules early need to access them through their Aspen accounts. Schedules will be available no later than Tuesday, July 30. Students will also receive a paper copy of their schedules in homeroom in Friday, Aug. 2. No paper copies will be released early. All students in grades 10-12 should know their Aspen account information. Accounts will appear as disabled for any students who have “holds” on their accounts because of unpaid fees, lost books, etc. Aspen log-in information will NOT be provided over the phone or by email because there is no way to monitor confidentiality.
All incoming freshmen (9th graders) may pick up their schedules on Tuesday, July 30, during Freshman Family Night. This event starts promptly at 4:00 p.m. and will last until approximately 7:00 p.m. Freshmen and their families will first report to the CCHS gym. During these hours, information will be distributed and students may find their classes by walking around the CCHS campus.
Please note that July 30 is the ONLY day for early schedule pick-up and touring the school for freshmen. If a student is unable to attend, he/she will receive their schedule on the first day of school, August 2. Please keep in mind that on August 2, all students in grades 9-12 are to attend school.
McGaha added, “Please remember that all schedules are tentative, and CCHS reserves the right to change schedules at will without prior notice. Counselors will NOT accept requests for any schedule changes before the first day of school when the DROP/ADD period begins.
“Students will be able to request changes by submitting a DROP/ADD form upon their return to school. The deadline for submitting all DROP/ADD forms regarding student requests for class changes will be 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 9. Submitting a form does NOT guarantee a schedule change, especially if the student is enrolled in courses he/she initially requested at registration. Examples of requests for changes that will NOT be granted (but are not limited to) changes to either have or not have a certain teacher, changes for lunch periods, and/or wanting to be in a class with a friend.”
For more information, call the CCHS main office (423-623-8718) or the CCHS counseling office (423-623-4010) during regular school hours on or about July 24.
