NEWPORT—The Cocke County High School Class of 1957 held its 62th annual reunion on July 13, 2019 at the historic Taylor-Ford house in Newport. The group was hosted by Tammy and Jabo Francis in honor of class member Alfred “Butch” and his wife Mary Ford.

Ben Hooper welcomed the group and extended a special greeting to their only surviving teacher, Elizabeth Wild Parks, and husband Y. J.

Eight classmates who have died since the last reunion were remembered: Buddy Don Ramsey, Dawn Blevins Chrisman, Donald Ray Fox, Claudette Dunn Shults, Carroll Hall, Mickey Lovell, June Boley Wiand and Margaret Holt Shelton. Families of deceased class members attending included Jason Ramsey, Debra Lovell, Sue Henry, Libby Strange, and Ivan and Renda Hall.

Appreciation was extended to Joyce Clark and Christine Smith for their leadership in organizing the event. Charles McNabb, Arlen Allen, Garry Brooks, and Christine Smith were recognized for having attended all twenty-five reunions,

Music of the 50’s was provided by the Spirit of Smoky singers, composed of Tina Kilgore, Denise Ball, Susan Burgin, and Teresa Buckner. The group concluded the program with their special rendition of the Statler Brothers hit, The Class of ‘57

Members attending included Arlen Allen, Garry Brooks, Bobby Burnett, Peggy Butler Giles, Butch Ford, Christine Gray Smith, Joyce Gray Clark, Willie Green, Shelby Grooms Owens, Guy Hayes, Ben Hooper, Carroll Huff, Evelyn Mason Rhodes, Charles McNabb, Billy Violet, Junior Walker, and Jeanne Yater Birdwell.
