BYBEE—The Cocke County Sheriff’s Department responded to an anonymous call received by dispatch around 1:40 p.m. on Sunday, stating that a suspicious male was “walking” under the bridge on Briar Thicket Rd.

Upon arrival, Deputy Timothy Snapp discovered a partially clothed body lying under the bridge.

The deceased individual was later identified as 40-year-old Michael Lynn Hickey, of Bean Station.

The report did disclose that an autopsy showed no trauma to the body and officials believe that Hickey could possibly have been a victim of drowning.

Hickey’s mother was able to identify the body of her son based on his tattoos.

She also stated that her son was on the run due to a parole violation.

A duffle bag and backpack were also found at the scene, as well as a shoe cell phone and charger.

Deputy Snapp reported that the majority of the items in the duffle bag were women’s clothing. A purse was also found in the Nolichucky River near the body.

Snapp also took photos of two separate shoe prints on the path that led to the body.

The Sheriff’s Department is continuing the investigation into the unusual circumstances surrounding Hickey’s death, including person or persons he may have been in contact with prior to his death.
