NEWPORT— A Cosby man is facing an several charges after he was found in possession of a large quantity of methamphetamine and cash following a vehicle accident on Saturday, Nov. 30 in Newport.
Newport Police officials identified the male as Chad A. McGaha, 22, Keener Road. He was charged with possession of schedule II (three counts), possession of schedule VI, possession of marijuana, possession of a firearm while committing a felony, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, violation of implied consent, driving while license revoked, and texting while driving.
On Saturday, Newport Patrolman Jordan Douglas said he was dispatched to the area of Cosby Highway near Jones Circle concerning a vehicle accident.
Upon arrival, Ptl. Douglas came in contact with McGaha, who admitted he was texting and driving when he rear ended the vehicle in front of him.
Ptl. Douglas noted while speaking with McGaha that he had slurred speech, bloodshot eyes and was sweating profusely despite not having a shirt on in 50 degree weather.
According to the report, officers discovered a baggie of marijuana and a needle in the passenger seat of McGaha’s vehicle.
He was then detained without further incident.
A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a large baggie that contained 31 grams of methamphetamine, $994 and a firearm.
Ptl. Douglas reported that no field sobriety tests were conducted due to safety concerns.
