NEWPORT—The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office has released details following an incident where a child was attacked by a dog on Wednesday, July 3.

Deputy Zach Shelton was dispatched to the 1000 block of Highway 25E, concerning a 5-year-old who was attacked by a dog.

Upon arrival, Deputy Shelton came in contact with the child. Shelton reported that the child had several puncture wounds on both legs, its right arm, and the child had a deep laceration wound on the inside of its thigh.

The child told deputies that the dog started biting him all over and he did not know why.

According to the report, the dog that attacked the child had been shot and was deceased upon arrival.

First Call EMS was called to the scene and transported the child to Newport Medical Center for treatment.
