NEWPORT—A Newport woman sustained serious injuries after she was ejected from a vehicle on Monday, Oct. 7. The driver of the vehicle is facing an array of charges including driving under the influence and vehicular assault.
Emergency personnel were dispatched to the area of Deer Foot Road and Country Square Road concerning a single vehicle accident around 2 a.m. Monday morning.
Upon arrival, THP Troopers found the vehicle in question with Brandy James, 33, Newport, underneath the vehicle.
According to the report, the driver of the 1998 Subaru Forester, identified as Melissa Potts, 49, Cosby, was traveling North on Deer Foot Road when she left the roadway.
The vehicle then traveled down an embankment and reportedly ejected James from the passenger side.
Trooper Gordon reported that the vehicle then rolled over partially on top of James before coming to a rest.
James sustained serious injuries and was airlifted to UT Medical Center for treatment.
Potts sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Newport Medical Center before being released to law enforcement.
She was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, vehicular assault, failure to exercise due care, violation of probation (two counts), lane usage, seat belt violation, violation of financial responsibility, no registration and driving while license suspended.
