NEWPORT—The Cocke County Sheriff’s Office has performed an investigation and arrested Jeffery Lee Philpot, 53, at his residence located at 328 Wedgewood way in Newport.
Deputy Chris Barnes and Narcotic officer David Robertson obtained consent to search the residence.
The subsequent search of the residence led deputies to find $55,748 in cash, and over 833 pills consisting of Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, Oxymorphone and morphine.
Deputies confiscated a scale and a ledger consistent with illegal drug activity. They also recovered stolen roadway signs and other signs, which are county property.
Deputies found ammunition in the residence as well.
The suspect was on parole with the Tennessee Department of Corrections for felony drug activity.
Philpot is currently being held in the Cocke County Jail.
A second suspect, Christine Hawkins, 35, was also arrested at the residence for three violation of probation warrants out of circuit and sessions court.
Philpot has been charged with four counts of possession of schedule 2 Oxmorphone, Oxycodone and morphine for resale, possession schedule 3 Hydrocodone for resale, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft under $500.
