NEWPORT—A former City of Newport Alderwoman along with another female were arrested by the Newport Police Department Friday morning after they stole a number of items from Walmart.

City officers identified the women as former Alderwoman Kathy Holt and Leah Myers.

Patrolman Shane Bower reported that he and other officers were conducting a walk through at Walmart when they were approached by an employee and advised of two active shoplifters.

According to the report, the employee said Holt and Myers did not scan all of their items before placing them in a bag while checking out at a self-checkout line. Both women then attempted to leave the store.

Holt allegedly had $107 worth of merchandise that was not paid for while Myers was in possession of $176 worth of merchandise.

Both were arrested and charged with shoplifting and theft.
