Georgia Vivian Shaver Spratt, age 85, of Wolf Creek, died
peacefully surrounded by her family after a long illness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Spratt;
father, Burnett Shaver; mother, Ethel Shaver; brothers and sisters, Ruble
Shaver, Alfred Shaver, Faye Collins, Aubrey Shaver, Mary Jo Pierce, Sally
Butler and Maxine Hummelgard; and the best dog ever Moxie.
She is survived by her devoted children and their
spouses, Jack and Katherine Spratt, and Lisa and Steve Lewis; her two
grandchildren, Elisabeth and Emma Spratt; her two brothers, Glen Shaver and
Everett Shaver; and many nieces and nephews.
Georgia worked after high school as a telephone operator
and until the birth of her second child for an insurance agency in Asheville,
NC. After that Georgia became a full time homemaker caring for many family
members throughout the years. A member of Wolf Creek Church. Georgia often
provided the flowers for the Sunday services from her own back yard.
She was a dedicated gardener with a beautiful yard,
growing not only a wide variety of flowers and vegetables, but also tending a
very unique wildflower garden. Aunt "Georgie" was also known by her
family and friends as a gracious hostess in her lovely mountain home, a gifted
cook, and a terrific picnic/reunion organizer. You could not leave Georgia's
home without a jar of her delicious homemade pickles, relishes, jams or
jellies.
Georgia was a highly compassionate person who showed her
many family and friends her love by daily acts of kindness. Special thanks to
her many nieces and nephews, and to her dear friends, especially Faye and Keith
Burgin and Paula Bearden for your many kindnesses to Georgia throughout the
years. She loved you all very much. And, with gratitude in our hearts, the
family wants to thank the exceptional staff at Newport Health and
Rehabilitation Center in Newport, for the loving care of Georgia especially
Margaret, Amanda and Lisa.
