Somehow when I was young, I lost my way.
My way of thinking, of feeling, of understanding, of loving.
But still I had one very special thing.
I found my way down a path of sorrow, of sadness, of destruction, of hate.
But I still had one very special thing.
When things finally got their worst, when I was near my end, my death,
I found my way back. I found my way back with that one very special thing,
My mama’s love, God’s love.
A Tribute to his mother written by Bradly Denton
She was as proud of hailing from the “Old Fifteenth” as she was of being a graduate of Washington College Academy, two times in her life from which she would often share stories. She never knew a stranger or felt out of place, from an old time revival with friends and family to business executives and their wives at retreats with Gordon. She loved watching basketball as she played while attending Washington College Academy. She liked watching Jeopardy, Wheel of Fortune, Seinfeld, and reruns of Hee Haw. She had a quick wit and was a much stronger person than she probably ever felt. She was a great Southern cook and made the best biscuits and gravy, sweet tea, and potato soup you’d ever taste. She was a lover of pets and passed this on to her sons. As Terryl headed out to his many beloved outdoor and hunting activities, she introduced me to the piano. She loved to sing along to the many hymns that echoed in our home, but her favorite was the Little Drummer Boy. Her beautiful blue eyes often accompanying the most radiant smile will be missed beyond words. Well done, Mama. Glory be to God. Rest in Peace.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the many friends and family in the Del Rio Community who came to aid and comfort Gordon and Iva Lee in their times of need over the past few years.
A special thank you, words cannot express, to John David and Yevonne Owens for their undying friendship, comfort, and aid through so many trying times. “Brother and Sister”, God Bless.
Iva Lee is survived by sons, Terryl Denton and Brad Denton, grandchildren Taylor Denton and Dillon Denton (wife Whitney), great grandchildren Axton and Jett, sister Stephane Coggins Banks, and many nieces and nephews and many friends through the country.
Per her request she was cremated and no services are planned.
