FLORENCE, SC--A funeral service for Bruce Emory CampbellJr., will be at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 26, 2009, in Pisgah United MethodistChurch, conducted by the Rev. Pamela Ledbetter. Interment with military honors by Florence Veterans HonorGuard in Florence National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m.tonight at Cain Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to McLeod Hospice, P.O. Box100551, Florence, SC 29502-0551. Mr. Campbell, 84, died Tuesday, June 23, 2009, at McLeodHospice House after a long illness. The oldest of five siblings, he was bornNovember 27, 1924, in Newport, Tenn., to the late Bruce E. and Millie LovellCampbell. He is predeceased by his wife of 63 years, Lela MahaffeyCampbell and brothers Harold (Newport, Tenn.) and Billy Campbell (Jonesboro,Tenn.). Mr. Campbell was a salesman for the trucking industry forover 35 yrs., moving from Charlotte, N.C., to Florence in 1956. He was a memberof Pisgah United Methodist Church and former member of St. Paul UnitedMethodist Church where he served as an Usher and Men's Sunday school teacher. He was aCharter Member of Oakdale Country Club serving on the Board of Directors forseveral years. He was Club Champion in 1965 and first runner-up in severalother club championships. He was amember of the SC Men's Golf Association; Past President of SC Traffic Club; andCharter Member of Florence Breakfast Optimist Club. Mr. Campbell served his country and was a WWII Veteran inthe US Army's 159th Engineer Combat Battalion under General George S. Patton in1943 until the war ended in 1945. His family, friends, golf, fishing, NASCAR, BravesBaseball and the Tennessee Volunteers were his passions in life. Mr. Campbell is survived by his only daughter, NancyCampbell Williams, of Lexington, S.C.; two devoted grandsons, Chad Thompson andTyler Campbell Williams, also of Lexington, S.C.; great-granddaughter, KalliBrice Burke and her mother, Kayla, of Lexington, S.C.; sister, Carol Williams,of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Joe Rubisch, ofPicayune, Mississippi. The family would like to thank Linda and Darrell Jonesfor all their love and support with Bruce and Lela over the years; Monda andBilly Griffin for all their support, love and devotion; Wayne and Gwen Mahaffeyfor all their prayers and support; Carol and Tom Doty for their devotion andfriendship; Dr. Gilliam Skinner and his staff; McLeod Home Hospice staff; Dr.Shah, nurses and staff at McLeod Hospice House for their compassion; McLeodHome Health; Healthsouth Rehabilitation and Mary and Ed Williams and ElizabethWilliams for all their love and support, Bob and Laura Hudson for theirsupport, Dan Farrow for his friendship and support Frank Locklair, Debbie VoltzMoore and all the "Facebook" friends for their support and LisaMcDonalds and Betty Hughes, Mr. Bruce's devoted caregivers.
