McDonald Valentine, Jr.

McDonald Valentine, Jr., 64, of Cumming, Ga., died June 11, 2009, after a long illness. He was preceded in death by his father, McDonald Valentine; mother, Jewel Valentine; grandparents, Luther and Virgie Valentine. Don is survived by his beloved wife, Agnes (Ling) Valentine, of Cumming, Ga.; step-mother, Lora Mae Valentine, of Cosby, Tenn.; brothers, Ronnie Valentine, of Va., and Hal Valentine, of Knoxville, Tenn.; sister, June Sims, of Cosby, Tenn.; along with nieces, nephews, and many friends. Don graduated from the University of Tennessee in 1968. He played baseball at the University of Miami. He served as a Ranger Advisor to the 52nd Vietnamese Ranger Battalion from 1969 to 1970 in Vietnam, was wounded in action, later serve in the reserves, and retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. He was a scholar, author, gentleman, talented baseball player and coach, founded the North Atlanta Mustangs Baseball Team and over the years helped many young players get into college and professional baseball. Funeral services were held Monday, June 15, in the Chapel of McDonald & Son funeral home. Interment followed at the National Cemetery, Canton, Ga. The family received friends June 15 at the funeral home.
