Radio thief ‘handled’ Sunday, Detective Bryan Murr arrested Michelle Louise Ball, a.k.a. “Michelle Park,” 23, 337 Alex St., Newport, on charges of theft over $500 in connection with the theft of a two-way radio reported stolen from Norfolk Southern railroad company Aug. 20, 2007. The estimated value of the stolen radio is $900. Ball arrests man on violation of probation charges Saturday, Dep. C.J. Ball arrested Victor W. Hayes, 44, 571 Battle Road, Newport, on charges of violation of probation from January warrants. Hunting Woods Way man bagged with charges Monday, Dep. C.J. Ball arrested James O. Smith, 43, 116 Hunting Woods Way, on charges of second-offense driving on a revoked license, violation of probation and was cited for a traffic control device. According to the report, Ball was patrolling Locust Avenue when he observed a 1995 Ford Thunderbird driven by Smith travel through a stop sign without halting near Pennell Lane and toward the path of his cruiser. Ball arrested Smith after he found the subject was driving on a license revoked from DUI charges. Criminal impersonation Friday, Dep. Derek Wright arrested Stacy Burchfield, 22, 625 Ridge Road, Maryville, on charges of criminal impersonation after providing false identification information after the 1993 Honda Accord she was riding in was pulled over. According to the report, Burchfield was a passenger in the Honda and stated her name was Stacy Carver, date of birth April 15, 1985. Burchfield’s actual birthday falls on May 15, 1985. Speeder braked with charges Friday, Dep. Derek Wright clocked a 1997 Mazda G26 driven by Phillip Greene, 20, 416 Harper Circle, Newport, traveling 61 mph in a 45 mph zone near Hilltop Drive, Newport. Wright stopped Greene, who provided a false name and age, and noticed the photo on the driver’s-license Greene provided did not match the suspect. According to the report, Greene told Wright his real name and stated his license was suspended for failure to pay for a ticket. Greene did not have proof of either insurance or registration for the Mazda. Upon searching the vehicle, Wright found a cigarette box containing nine Valium-like pills. Greene was arrested on charges of speeding, failure to provide insurance, possession of schedule IV drugs, failure to provide insurance, driving with a suspended license and criminal impersonation. 61-year-old arrested on charges of stalking, vandalism Thursday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested James L. McCarter, 61, 121 Edwards Way, Newport, on charges of vandalism, stalking and criminal trespassing. According to the report, a woman filed a report with the sheriff’s department stating McCarter came to her residence and slashed two of her vehicle’s tires. Fontes went to McCarter’s residence and spoke with him but the suspect denied the allegations stating he was never at the residence. Fontes found a knife “In plain view of McCarter’s vehicle.” Upon searching the vehicle, Fontes found two additional knives. When Fontes compared the knives to the slash marks on the tires, he found one of the blades matched the length of the puncture marks found on the woman’s vehicle. Fontes noted the knife had “consistent marks on it, which would indicate something had been stabbed.” Fontes obtained three warrants for McCarter on the above-listed charges. The woman told Fontes McCarter has been stalking and harassing her over money allegedly owed by an ex-boyfriend. Multiple charges Tuesday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested Rose Hall Boggs, 43, 1776 Mellow Road, Bybee, on charges of public intoxication and possession of drug paraphernalia. Boggs was arrested after Thornton arrived at her residence on a call concerning a domestic dispute. Boggs reportedly came outside her home after Thornton entered her driveway. Thornton noted Boggs appeared unsteady on her feet and smelled of alcohol. A male resident of the home was also allegedly intoxicated. Thornton entered the home and reported detecting the presence of marijuana. When the residents were asked if a search could be conducted, they reportedly said ‘yes.’ Thornton found three bags of marijuana seeds, rolling papers, hemostats and scales. Casher checked into jail Monday, Detective Bryan Murr arrested Cindy Rener James, 27, 805 Bridges Chapel Road, Newport, on charges consisting of eight counts of theft under $500 for the alleged theft of a checkbook owned by Eva May Webb reported stolen May 30. James received additional theft under $500 charges stemming from an ATM card she allegedly used that was reported stolen by its owner, Diane McCoig. Chevy scratched by CAT Monday, Lt. Jonathan Morgan was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident near 185 Shelton Chapel Road involving a 1997 Chevrolet van and a 1992 Caterpillar 916. According to the report, Brian Paul Alecce, 42, 125 Shelton Chapel Road, Parrottsville, was traveling on Shelton Chapel Road in his Chevrolet when Jerrod W. Phillips, 30, 185 Shelton Chapel Road, pulled into the path of his van. Morgan reported Phillips’ view was obstructed because of a semi-trailer parked next to his driveway. Mail carried off Monday, Sgt. Armando Fontes filled out an incident report made by Steven Patrick Tweed, 51, 1311 N. Highway 107, Greeneville, concerning the theft of mail from his mailbox. According to the report, Tweed stated someone has been stealing his mail. Tweed stated he observed a white Honda Accored pull up to his mailbox and saw the driver open his mailbox and tamper with his mail. Tweed stated he doesn’t know if any mail was removed. Tweed alleges the same suspect, described as 5’4” to 5’7,” heavy-set, has harassed his family, made threats, stalked them, cursed them and driven by their residence. Tweed stated the problem has been ongoing since October. Tweed also stated the man has made sexual comments toward a 13-year-old. Thief/thieves lift items off Airport Road Sunday, Dep. Brian Holt was dispatched to the residence of Jerrid Lillard, 24, 686 Airport Road, Bybee, on a call concerning the theft of wheels, tires and a mailbox from his residence. According to the report, Lillard stated someone stole eight 15” aluminum Chevrolet Blazer wheels from his residence in November along with four wheels and tires from his Camaro in February. Lillard told Holt someone also stole his mailbox within the past week. The estimated value of the stolen items totals $1,550. Silverado stolen from Almond Road Tuesday, March 18, C.J. Ball responded to a call made by William Ashworth, 24, 113 Almond Road, Cosby, concerning the theft of his 1999 Chevrolet Silverado. According to the report, Ball was dispatched to a truck fire on Greasy Cove Road. Upon arrival, Ball found the truck on the roadway burning. Ball was able to run the vehicle’s license plate through dispatch and discovered it belonged to Ashworth. Ball’s report states Ashworth had reported his vehicle stolen. The estimated value of the pickup is $10,000. Appliances and Nintendo games stolen Saturday, Dep. David Parton filled out an offense report made by Julius B. Allison, 26, 156 Mineral St., Newport, concerning the theft of a Maytag freezer and stove along with Nintendo games from a residence at 1641 Allens Chapel Road. The estimated value of the stolen items is $300. Phone lines cut Saturday, Dep. Derek Wright filled out an offense report made by Ken Schultz, 38, 555 Battle Road, Newport, concerning the vandalism of his telephone lines. According to the report, Schultz told Wright someone has been vandalizing his house. Schultz added that he noticed someone opened his phone box and cut the phone lines. An cost estimate wasn’t provided in the report. Ford turning plow stolen Monday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an offense report made by Tommy Strange, 51, 482 Strange Hollow Road, Del Rio, concerning the theft of his Ford turning plow. According to the report, Strange stated someone took the plow in February. The plow, valued at $950, was reportedly kept beside Strange’s shed prior to the theft. Pool slashed Saturday, Dep. C.J. Ball filled out an incident report made by Tracy Williams, 26, 508 Paintbrush Way, concerning the vandalism of her swimming pool. According to the report, Williams stated someone cut a two-foot section into her pool causing $300 worth of damage. James arrested on criminal impersonation charges Saturday, Dep. Derek Wright stopped a 1995 Subaru driven by Cindy James, 27, 611 Oak St., Gatlinburg, because her driver’s-side taillight was burned out and she reportedly wasn’t wearing a seatbelt. James provided a false name, Renea James, and a false age. James was reportedly wanted on a warrant for violation of probation. She was arrested on charges of violation of probation and criminal impersonationl. Police Driving on a revoked license Tuesday, Sgt. James Holt arrested Dennie J. Duncan, 42, 333 River Rest Way, Newport, on charges of fourth-offense of driving on a revoked license and failure to obey a traffic control device. According to the report, Duncan was arrested after Holt reportedly saw him fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of West Highway 25/70 and Mariner Road. Marquis crowned by shopping cart Monday, Patrolman Brad Ball filled out an incident report made by Tina M. Hannah, 48, 1514 James Branch Road, Newport, concerning shopping-cart damage to her 2004 Mercury Grand Marquis while it was parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to the report, Hannah stated a shopping-cart rolled down the parking lot and struck her car’s passenger-side rear door. Hannah reported the incident likely occurred around 1 a.m. Saturday. The cost of the damage is $800. Girl chased by dog, father fights back Monday, Patrolman Justin Vinson responded to an alleged dog attack at 417 Driskill Circle, Newport. According to the report, Leslie Talley, no age given, 556 Eighth St., Newport, stated he and his daughter were delivering papers last Friday on Driskill Circle. When Talley’s 10-year-old daughter went to deliver a paper to 417 Driskill Circle, a large brown and white dog reportedly ran from inside the residence and chased her onto the hood of her father’s car. The dog reportedly barked and snarled at the girl until Talley exited the vehicle and chased the animal back into its owner’s house. Vinson reportedly knocked on the door of the dog owner’s residence, Claudia Whitlock, 50, 417 Driskill Circle, Newport, and could hear the animal barking inside. When Whitlock opened the door, Vinson reported the animal barked, growled and attempted to approach him. Vinson advised Whitlock the animal needed to be taken away and could no longer be within the Newport Housing Authority. Whitlock stated she would take the animal to the pound on Tuesday. Honda stolen, possibly burned Monday, Sgt. James Holt filled out an incident report made by Marilyn McCarter, 44, 1048 Huff Road, Cosby, concerning the theft of her 1995 Honda while it was parked at the Western Plaza Shopping Center. While Holt was filing the report on McCarter’s Honda, the Cocke County Sheriff’s Department received information that a similar vehicle was burning on Browns Chapel Road. The vehicle reportedly met the description of McCarter’s Honda. However, Holt reported that information has not yet been confirmed. The estimated value of McCarter’s Honda is $5,000.
