Weekend roundup Saturday, Dep. Jason Oury arrested Ronald Dean Silvers, 34, 3540 Jockey Road, Limestone, on charges of public intoxication. Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Michael Coggins, 38, 212 Locust St., Greeneville, on charges of DUI and violation of the open container law. Sunday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested Thomas B. Trotter, 47, 232 Gray Slate Circle, Sevierville, on charges of public intoxication and violation of the open container law. Sunday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Valarie Cuzick, 36, 2339 Red Bud Road, Sevierville, on charges of public intoxication. Fontes also arrested Scott Cuzick, 37, same address, on charges of first-offense DUI, violation of the open container law, violation of the implied consent law and two counts of reckless endangerment. Sunday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested David E. Rice, 56, 1128 Tulip Way, Newport, on charges of first-offense DUI and violation of the implied consent law. Sunday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Robert B. Kyker, 25, 1848 Lower English Creek Road, Newport, on charges of first-offense DUI and violation of the open container law. Blazer and Dakota collide Friday, Dep. Derrick Webb was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Dark Hollow Road. According to the report, Timothy R. Teffeteller, 48, 113 Apricot Way, Newport, was traveling south on Dark Hollow Road in his 1999 Dodge Dakota when Sandra W. Barnes, 61, 811 Maple Lane, Newport, drove her 2001 Chevrolet Blazer from Driftwood Road and into the path of his truck. Garage ablaze Thursday, Dep. Brian Holt was dispatched to 648 English Springs Road, Newport, on a call concerning a house fire. Upon arrival, Holt spotted smoke coming from the home’s attached garage and contacted the Cocke County Fire Department. While Holt was waiting for firefighters to respond, the owner of the home, Melissa A. Foster, 35, 648 English Springs Road, Newport, arrived on-scene. Foster told Holt someone spray-painted the sides of her home between March 22 and March 25. Foster stated she had been staying somewhere else because her home caught fire March 19. Three exterior portions of the home were reportedly spray-painted with blue paint. The word “Fire” was painted on an interior basement wall. The estimated cost of the burned vinyl siding is $13,000. Johnson Street home entered Thursday, Dep. Steve Johnson filled out an incident report made by Jackie Lane, 33, 404 Johnson St., Newport, concerning a shattered window at her home. According to the report, Lane stated she came home and noticed her garage door window was shattered. Lane reported nothing missing from the home but believes someone entered her residence. Toshiba taken Monday, Lt. Rick Laws responded to a call made by Anne Shanks, 41, 1870 Whitlock Road, Newport, concerning the theft of her 32” Toshiba TV. According to the report, Shanks stated someone entered a residence at 1864 Whitlock Road, where a daughter had lived, on either March 28 or March 29 and stole her TV. Shanks told Laws no signs of forcible entry were noticed at the residence. The estimated value of the stolen TV is $522.23. Pistol, pills, cash stolen from Fincher Road Saturday, Dep. Jason Oury responded to a call made by Timmothy Timmons, 53, 741 Free Bird Way, concerning the theft of several items from his father’s home. Upon arrival, Timmons told Oury someone entered his father’s residence at 526 Fincher Road between 6 a.m. Friday and 4:30 p.m. Saturday. The side garage door had been kicked opened and a side-door knob was removed to allow the perpetrators to gain entry. A door to the residence was also damaged in an effort to gain entry to the home. Timmons’ father’s medication, cahiers checks, cash and .22-caliber pistol were taken from the residence. The estimated value of the stolen items is $9,775. Ford’s grill damage Sunday, Dep. Derek Wright filled out an incident report made by Troy Thornton, 64, 673 Clifford Road, Newport, concerning the vandalism of his Ford F-150s grill. According to the report, Thornton stated he was traveling west on Highway 25/70 when someone threw something at his vehicle causing damage to the grill. Attempted break-in Friday, Dep. Hollis Emmons filled out an incident report made by Jay Messer, 25, 105 Windspirit Way, Newport, concerning the vandalism and attempted breaking and entering of both his 1996 Ford Explorer and his home. According to the report, Messer told Emmons he left his residence on Thursday around 6 p.m. and returned at 2 p.m. Friday to discover someone had attempted to damage the door lock on his Explorer. In addition, the backdoor of Messer’s home had also been tampered with but neither the Explorer nor the home had been entered. The estimated cost to repair the home and SUV’s locks is $230. Violation of probation Friday, Dep. Hollis Emmons arrested Norman Coggins, 35, 3685 Mill Road, Hartford, and John Ruth , 51, same address, on charges of violation of probation. Batteries included Monday, March 24, Dep. Jason Oury responded to a call made from Holt’s Used Cars, 1545 E. Highway 25/70 concerning the theft of 27 batteries from the dealership. Upon arrival, an employee told Oury he received a phone call from the owner around 9:20 a.m. stating the hoods of several vehicles were open. The employee examined the vehicles and discovered 12 batteries had been removed from them. In addition, 15 batteries where stolen from behind a building. The estimated value of the stolen batteries is $1,080. …but the kitchen sink Tuesday, March 25, Sgt. Armando Fontes responded to a call made by Theresa Anne Marie Humphreys, 58, 5278 NW 87 Way, Coral Springs, Fla., concerning the theft of several items from her 4444 Barnes Valley home. According to the report, Humphreys stated she left her Barnes Valley residence Jan. 3 and when she returned March 25, she noticed someone had forced the rear door of the residence open. Humphreys told Fontes the house looked like it had been inhabited for a period of time without her permission. While Humphreys was in Florida, someone stole her Kenmore washer, drier, refrigerator, a hot water heater, vanity, card table, Zenith TV, .38-special pistol, GE dishwasher, assorted pots and pans and the electric bill. The estimated value of the stolen items is $3,513. Bull struck by Toyota Sunday, Sgt. Armando Fontes was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on Highway 160. According to the report, Jacob Barb Rader, 54, 2521 Scott Pond Road, Parrottsville, was traveling west on Highway 160 in his 1986 Toyota pickup when a black bull appeared in the roadway. Rader told Fontes he attempted to miss the animal but was unable to avoid striking it. The front of Rader’s pickup received damage and the bull suffered injuries. Driver looks away, crashes Monday, Dep. Derek Wright was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident off Highway 321. According to the report, Matthew B. Shults, 20, 4291 Grindstaff Road, Hartford, stated he was traveling north on Highway 321 in his 1992 Honda Accord and reportedly looked down in the car causing him to swerve and strike a guardrail. The Honda reportedly overturned and came rest in a culvert. Police Steaks breach britches Monday, Patrolman Donald Coakley was dispatched to Food City West on a complaint of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, Coakley spoke to an employee who stated he noticed a white female, 20s, “acting strange.” The employee told Coakley he followed the female and watched her place several steaks down her pants. When the employee approached the female, the woman fled the store and several packages of steaks fell out her trousers. The employee stated he believes the woman was hiding steaks in her purse because it reportedly appeared to be bulging. The white female was seen leaving the store in a black 1996 four-door Saturn. Police were provided with the vehicle’s license-plate number. DUI charges Sunday, Patrolman Jason Smith arrested Hellen Vaughn, 22, 1871 Highway 321, on charges of DUI and driving without insurance. Monday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick arrested Billy Clevenger, 42, 370 Bonanza Drive, Newport, on charges of second-offense DUI, speeding, driving without insurance and possession of schedule IV drugs. Failure to appear in sessions court Monday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick arrested Michelle Arrowwood, 29, 114 Lincoln Ave., Newport, on charges of failure to appear in General Sessions Court. Ramsey restrains runner Sunday, Lt. Jason Ramsey observed Jerrod R. Swagerty, 19, 458 Overlook Way, Newport, drive a maroon 1989 Chevrolet Suburban at a high rate of speed across five lanes of traffic from Fred’s parking lot toward Krystal’s in an attempt to avoid police confrontation. Swagerty then exited the Chevrolet and fled on foot toward East Tennessee Wings. Ramsey told Swagerty to return to the vehicle. Ramsey attempted to search Swagerty but the suspect reportedly resisted by refusing to give his right hand to the officer. Swagerty began to struggle with Ramsey until the officer physically restrained him. He was arrested on charges of driving without a license and resisting to stop, halt and frisk. Saturn hits Buick Monday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on West Broadway near the intersection of Hedrick Drive. According to the report, Tommy S. Henard, 62, 1024 Deerfoot Lane, Rogersville, was slowing in the eastbound left traffic lane of Broadway at its junction with Hedrick Drive in his 2003 Buick LaSabre when the rear driver’s-side of his vehicle was struck by a 1998 Saturn Coupe driven by Joseph Whitlock, 19, 1550 Cosby Highway, Newport. Mustang noses Corsica Monday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident near the junction of West Highway 25/70 and Rhyne Camp Road. According to the report, Oscar C. Holdway, 75, 285 Bybee Road, Newport, was traveling west on Highway 25/70 in his 1996 Chevrolet Corsica and attempting to turn eastbound at a median turnaround when the rear of his vehicle was struck by a westbound 1998 Ford Mustang driven by Allan Monterroso, 18, 1406 Lisa Way, Newport. Monterroso received charges of driving without a license. Chevy bumps Ford near intersection Monday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on West Broadway near its intersection with the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Vickie Ramsey, 35, 220 Green Briar Circle, Newport, was traveling west on west Broadway in a 2001 Ford F-150 when the rear of the pickup was struck by a 1996 Chevrolet driven by Samuel M. Doolittle, 16, 1709 Memory Lane, Bybee. Woman dragged downhill by van Monday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson was dispatched to a one-vehicle incident involving a woman at 758 Centerview Drive. According to the report, Matilda D. James, 63, 758 Cityview Drive, Newport, was reportedly sitting in the driveway of the above-listed address waiting for her son to take her to the doctor. James told Lawson she thought she put the 1998 Plymouth minivan into park. James stated the van started rolling backward as she attempted to exit the vehicle. James told Lawson that when she attempted to engage the emergency brake the van’s door knocked her down and she was dragged down the driveway. The van’s passenger door struck an unoccupied 1997 Mercury owned by Annette and J.C. Caldwell, ages not given, 141 Bryant St., Newport, before stopping.
