North Carolina biker bagged

Wednesday, Sgt. Tony Whitten observed a man riding a motorcycle on Hartford Road without wearing a helmet. Whitten stopped the biker, Cody William Holcombe, 24, Seven Cannon Road, Candler, N.C., who first said his name was Billy William Odem. Whitten and central dispatch were unable to find a match with the name until Holcombe produced an ID card with the correct information. Holcombe’s license is suspended and shows no proof of insurance on the motorcycle he was riding.


Chevy strikes fence

Saturday, March 29, Dep. Derrick Webb was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on Carson Springs Road. According to the report, Rosie J. Manning, 24, 115 Country View Way, Newport, was traveling south on Carson Springs Road in her 2007 Chevrolet when she lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a curve and struck a chain-link fence.

Pistol, safe, TV stolen from Jay Bird Road

Wednesday, Patrolman Theo Williams filled out an incident report made by Mike Cortez, 46, 235 Jay Bird Road, Newport, concerning the theft of several items from inside his home. According to the report, Cortez stated he left his home unattended for two hours and when he returned, he discovered someone stole his 9 mm handgun, American safe, 13” TV/DVD combo, one filing cabinet and four tires and wheels. Cortez’s neighbors reportedly saw two white males, 20s, drive a small dark pickup truck into his yard and load several items into the vehicle. The estimated value of the stolen items is $2,200.


CDs swiped

Thursday, Patrolman Billy Woody responded to a cal made by Jimmy Raines, 23, 410 Terrace Way, Newport, concerning the theft of 150 CDs from his 1994 Nissan Sentra while it was parked in the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to the report, Raines stated he went inside the supercenter at 11 p.m. and noticed his CD case, usually kept in the passenger-side front floorboard, was missing. Raines also noticed his passenger-side door wasn’t closed completely. Raines told Woody he usually keeps his door unlocked.


Go-Cart’er injured

Wednesday, Patrolman Billy Woody was dispatched to Seventh Street on a complaint made concerning a go-cart accident. Upon arrival, Woody spoke to Kelly Hopson, no age given, 546 Seventh St., Newport, who stated her 13-year-old son was at a friend’s house Tuesday riding go-carts. The teenager reportedly fell from the vehicle and received several cuts and scrapes on his legs and back. Hopson took her son to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County where he was treated and released. The teenager complained of pains on Wednesday and was again taken to the hospital.


Blazer’s tires slashed

Thursday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham responded to a vandalism call made by Shane Barton, 26, 627 Warford Road, Newport, concerning two slashed tires on his 1987 Chevrolet K5 Blazer. According to the report, Barton stated he parked his Blazer at the Wendy’s parking lot and went joyriding with someone. When he checked his vehicle at 11:45 p.m., it was reportedly in sound condition. However, at 12:25 a.m., he noticed both passenger-side tires had been slashed. The estimated value of the slashed tires is $700.
