Tractor overturns in Parrottsville

Thursday, Dep. Hollis Emmons was dispatched to an accident involving an overturned 1979 John Deere 2040 on a farm off Good Hope Road, Parrottsville. According to the report, Mark Ward, 31, 1039 Gunter Corner Road, Parrottsville, was working on a farm owned by Dwayne Mason, no age given, 388 S. Highway 340, Parrottsville. Ward was reportedly towing a 20’ Goose Neck trailer loaded with wood and metal fence posts down a steep grade with the 2040 and his two-year-old son was riding as a passenger. While traveling downhill, the tractor lost traction and began sliding down the grade. The John Deere jackknifed and overturned before separating from the trailer. The tractor came to rest on its side and stopped the trailer from continuing downhill. When Emmons arrived, both the Parrottsville Ambulence Service and Allied E.M.S. were on-scene. Ward was transported by Allied E.M.S. to Baptist Hosptial of Cocke County while his son was taken by a family member to the same hospital. The estimated cost of the damages to the tractor is $5,000.


Criminal trespassing reported

Tuesday, Dep. Alton Cureton responded to a call concerning criminal trespassing made on the property of Freddy Finchum, no age given, 1080 Morrell Springs Road, Newport. According to the report, a neighbor of Finchum’s told Cureton he saw a man driving a blue dually stop and cut the lock from the victim’s gate. The incident reportedly occurred around 1 p.m. Finchum reportedly has papers from General Sessions Court dating May 3, 2007, which prohibits the suspect in question from being on his property.


Pit-bull bites woman’s hand

Thursday, Dep. Robert Thornton filled out an offense report made by Joann Jones, 71, 207 Clevenger Cut Off Road, Newport, concerning a would suffered while working in her flowerbed. According to the report, Jones stated she was working in her yard when pit bull approached her and bit her right hand. The dog ran off after Jones yelled at it. Jones reported having never seen the animal before.


9 mm, misplaced or stolen?

Thursday, Lt. Richard Caldwell filled out an offense report made by Scott Trentham, 43, 211 French Broad Circle, Apartment No. 33, Hot Springs, N.C., concerning either the theft or misplacement of his 9 mm Smith & Wesson handgun. According to the report, Trentham stated he went to a friend’s house to housesit while the person was out of town. Trentham told Caldwell he believes he left the pistol at the residence. When Trentham went back to the home in an effort to find the firearm, he was unable to locate it. The estimated value of the misplaced/stolen 9 mm is $300.


Hot tub hoisted from Custom Way

Thursday, Dep. Travis Webb was dispatched to 876 Custom Way where he spoke with Debbie A. Rushing, 46, 4378 Cosby Highway, Cosby, who stated that sometime last week, someone took a hot tub from the residence at Custom Way. The hot tub, valued at $4,000, was stolen from residence owned by Don Wilds, no age given, 800 S. Lourdes Drive, N. Jacksonville, Fla.


Tacoma recovered at Exit 447

Thursday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out an incident report concerning a recovered 1996 Toyota Tacoma reported stolen to the Jacksonville, N.C., Police Departmetn Dec. 1, 2006. The vehicle, found at the Exit 447 Rest Area, was recovered intact and reportedly belongs to Jeffery Strickland, 24, 265 Ottinger Road, Parrottsville.


$30,000 dog kennel reported stolen

Thursday, Dep. Travis Webb was dispatched to Miller Town Road, Cosby, on a call made by Walter V. Lee, 48, 2030 Engagement Lane, Chester, S.C., concerning the theft of his dog kennel, valued at $30,000, from his property on Miller Town Road. According to the report, Lee stated he believes a cleaning crew took the dog kennel assembly off his property but he couldn’t produce the name of the crew.

Thunderbird driver caged

Thursday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Frank McLain, 37, 112 Bethel Heaven Way, Newport, stated he was stopped at the traffic light facing the southbound lane of the Cosby Highway near Western Auto and Jones Circle awaiting a green light. When the light changed, McLain had yet to accelerate his 2003 Mazda Tribute when the rear of his vehicle was struck by a 1986 Ford Thunderbird driven by Katrina R. Parker, 34, 542 Eighth St., Newport. Parker was arrested on charges of third-offense driving on a revoked driver’s-license.


Gardner arrested for plowing Chrysler

Thursday, Sgt. Jerry Shelton was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Talea L. Blakely, 17, 635 Ellison Drive, Newport, had stopped the 2005 Chrysler PT Cruiser she was driving in the northbound lane of the Cosby Highway for a traffic light near the intersection with Jones Circle. While Blakely was awaiting for the light to change, the rear of the PT Cruiser was struck by a 1989 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Marvin H. Gardner, 44, 230 N. Fork Branch Road, Rogersville. Lt. Jason Ramsey arrested Gardner on charges of DUI and violation of the open container law.


On the list, off the property

Thursday, Patrolman Justin Vinson arrested James F. “Floyd” Brady, 35, no present address, Newport, on charges of criminal trespassing. According to the report, Vinson was patrolling the Harper Circle area within the Newport Housing Authority when he noticed Brady’s vehicle parked near on of the suspect’s relative’s house at 412 Harper Circle. Brady had been placed on the Newport Housing Authority’s criminal trespassing list.


Public intoxication charges

Friday, Sgt. Scott Lamb arrested Roy Glover, 47, 2 Cobblestone Way, Dandridge, on charges of public intoxication.


Truck vandalized in bar parking lot

Friday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham filled out an incident report made by Ronnie Williamson,49, 382 Thistle Way, Newport, concerning the vandalism of his 2002 Chevrolet 1500 pickup while it was parked at a bar off West Broadway. According to the report, Williamson stated the rear passenger-side tire of his truck was slashed and the flare-side fender on the driver’s-side had been damaged. A white male, 60s, is suspected to have been involved in the vandalism. The estimated cost of the damages is $1,050.


Fuji camera, perfume bottles stolen

Thursday, Patrolman Jason Smith responded to a call made by Jessica Strickland, 17, 552 Eighth St., Newport, concerning the theft of her Fuji digital camera and two bottles of perfume. According to the report, Strickland noticed the items were missing while she was cleaning her house. Strickland told Smith the incident likely occurred Wednesday from 6 to 9:30 p.m. because she was away from home. The estimated value of the stolen items is $540.


Mustang’s fender struck

Thursday, Lt. Jason Ramsey filled out an incident report made by Vicky Puckett, no age given, 311 Telford New Victory, Telford, concerning damage to the passenger-rear fender of her 2006 Ford Mustang while it was parked at the Cocke County Courthouse.
