Grand Rammed

Monday, Dep. Robert Thornton was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident off Carpentar Road. According to the report, Brenda Harville, 52, 133 Carpenter Road, Newport, was backing her 2001 Pontiac Grand Am out from her driveway when she struck a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500 owned by Sam Costner, no age given, same address.

 

Outstanding warrants

Monday, Dep. C.J. Ball went with Jefferson County Sherifff’s Deputies to 2933 Wells Lane, Dandridge, to arrest Terry Templin, 47, same address, on charges of two counts of violation of probation.

 

P.I. charges

Tuesday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Connie Ramsey, 43, 1243 Evans Valley Road, Newport, on charges of public intoxication.

 

S-10 backs into Impala

Monday, Dep. Hollis Emmons was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the Farmer’s Market, 642 W. Highway 25/70. According to the report, Joseph Tomasone, 89, 880 Burning Bush Way, Newport, was backing his 1991 Chevrolet S-10 from a parking space and struck a 2003 Chevrolet Impala owned by Jesse Freeman, no age given, 281 Lincoln Ave., Newport.

Catalytic converter swiped

Tuesday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham filled out an offense report made by Karen Hurst, 50, 248 Ramblin Road, Newport, concerning the theft of her 1991 Dodge van’s catalytic converter. According to the report, Hurst told Higginbotham she parked her van in the front row of the grocery store side of Wal-Mart in the employee section. When she came to her vehicle and started the engine, the van’s exhaust was loud. Hurst stated that when she looked underneath the vehicle, she noticed the catalytic converter had been sawed off the van. The estimated value of the stolen converter is $183.

 

Civic recovered

Tuesday, Detective Lynn Shults recovered a 1996 Honda Civic owned by Jason Edward Palenko, 34, 338 Hoot Owl Road, Spruce Pine, N.C., off the Morristown Highway near an old skating rink area. The vehicle’s keys were in the ignition and the radio system appeared to have been removed. The vehicle was stolen from a Cosby Highway hotel. The suspect is believed to be a 30 to 40-year-old black male.

 

Cavalier probed

Tuesday, Sgt. Jerry Shelton was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at Movie Time Video. According to the report, Jessica W. Allen, 20, 4615 Tanglewood Way, Hartford, backed her 1996 Ford Probe from a parking space and struck the driver’s-side door of a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by Jonathan W. Manning, 17, 1919 Brook Cemetery Road, Newport.

 

Cursed and keyed

Tuesday, Patrolwoman Donna Hopkins filled out an incident report made by Daniel R. Wise, 29, 246 Friendship Road, Newport, concerning the vandalism of his 1999 Dodge Durango while it was parked at the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to the report, Wise stated he went to Wal-Mart around 12 p.m. and pulled into a parking space. After entering the parking space, a white male, 50s, driving a white minivan, reportedly began cursing Wise in regards to the parking spot. Wise reportedly ignored the man and went inside the supercenter. Wise left the store around 12:40 p.m. and later noticed his vehicle had been keyed on both passenger-side doors. The estimated cost of the keyed doors is $1,000.

 

Window cracked at nail salon

Tuesday, Patrolman Derek Wrigth was told by Khiem Le, no age given, 10739 Rivera Way, Knoxville, that a rock damaged the front double-paned window at Avanti Nail Spa. Wright spoke to the owner who estimated the damaged window would cost $1,250 to repair. According to the report, the lawn in front of the business was being mowed when the incident likely occurred.

 

Old check fraud

Tuesday, Patrolman Jason Smith responded to a call made by Jack Gentry, 59, 620 Runion St., Newport, on a report of check fraud. According to the report, Smith spoke with Gentry who said he received a letter from collections on three bad checks written in his name. Gentry told Smith the checks were from a checking account he closed 10-years ago. Gentry also thinks he might have left a checkbook in a house on Rankin Road he lived in some years ago. The checks were reportedly written at the Pit Stop gas station in the amount of $277.50.

 

Monte Carlo trailered

Tuesday, Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on North Street. According to the report, Christopher J. Nixon, 22, 142, Summer Springs Way, Newport, stated he was turning west from North Street onto Main Street in his 1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo. A  2003 Peterbilt semi driven by Robert S. Emmons, 36, 12 Edwards Road, Fairview, N.C., was in the lane to the left of Nixon’s Monte Carlo and was making a similar turn onto Main Street when the vehicle’s trailer struck Nixon’s car. Emmons stated he couldn’t see Nixon’s Monte Carlo because it was in the truck’s blind-spot.
