Tools raided from construction site
Sunday, Dep. David Crowder was dispatched to a home
site under construction at 240 Timber Ridge Road, Del Rio, on a call made by
Ronnie Carroll Jones, 33, 1079 Blue Mill Road, Del Rio, concerning the theft of
more than $6,000 worth of tools. According to the report, Jones told Crowder he
left his house around 7 p.m. Saturday and when he returned on Sunday at 6:10
p.m., he discovered someone had broken into his residence through a window and
stole $6,180 in assorted tools.
Landscaping implements stolen
Monday, Dep. David Parton filled out an offense report
made by Jerry Brown, 59, 936 English Mountain Road, Cosby, concerning the theft
of one Stihl leaf blower, a Stihl chainsaw and a weed trimmer from his truck
while it was parked at his residence.
Mailboxes vandalized
Monday, Lt. Rick Laws filled out an offense report
made by three Del Rio residents concerning the vandalism of their mailboxes.
According to the report, Bill Coggins, 75, 1151 Cougar Trail, Del Rio, John
Mayes, 65, 225 Trinity Way, Del Rio and Spencer Jones, 60, 103 Bear Hollow
Road, Del Rio, reported someone knocked their mailboxes down. The estimated
value of the three boxes is $150.
Glass pugilist arrested
Friday, Dep. Robert Thornton was dispatched to the
home of Delores Chirstene Cashen, 54, 1601 Old Newport Highway, Newport, on a
call concerning the vandalism of a window at her home. According to the report,
Cashen told deputies that Ricky E. Solomon, 34, Rays Loop, Newport, was at her
home and punched a window with his fist causing it to break. Solomon then
allegedly threatened Cashen before leaving. Solomon was later arrested.
Stretched cord causes problems
Saturday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out an incident
report made by Kamala S. McNabb, 44, 122 Hilltop Drive, Newport, concerning a
violation of an order of protection against a relative who reportedly attempted
to use her electricity. According to the report, McNabb told Webb her
half-brother allegedly ran an extension cord from her house to his house next
door. McNabb stated she grabbed the extension cord to stop him from stretching
it to his residence. The relative reportedly pulled the cord and caused McNabb
to fall. McNabb had a copy of a valid order of protection against the man. The
relative reportedly left before Webb’s arrival.
Shepherd on the prowl
Saturday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out an incident
report made by David Johnson, 45, 1125 Mesquite Road, Newport, concerning a
German Shepherd that allegedly killed his dog. According to the report, Johnson
stated a German Shepherd jumped the fence on his porch, attacked and killed his
dog. Johnson said this was the third dog killed by the German Shepherd. The
animal reportedly escapes his pen often and runs at large.
Money reported stolen
Monday, Dep. Alton Cureton filled out an offense
report made by Theresa Gregg Gentry, 44, 721 Brooks Road, Newport, concerning
the theft of $148.95 from her checking account.
Visa stolen from purse
Monday, Lt. Rick Laws filled out an offense report
made by Agnes Belcher, 66, 1265 Mount Ash Road, Newport, concerning the theft
of her Visa credit card. According to the report, Belcher stated that around 2
p.m. Saturday, a relative entered her home and stole a Visa credit card from
her purse. The estimated value of the credit card is $500.
Altima slides off Rankin Road
Sunday, Dep. David Crowder was dispatched to a
one-vehicle accident near the junction of Rankin and Woodson roads. According
to the report, John Michael Norwood, 19, 155 Shellbark Road, Newport, told
Crowder he was traveling west on Woodson Road in his 1998 Nissan Altima and was
attempting to turn left onto Rankin Road when his vehicle lost traction and
slid off the roadway and into a ditch.
Pacifica hydroplanes
Sunday, Dep. Derrick Webb was dispatched to a
one-vehicle accident at the 445.5 mile marker of Interstate 40. According to
the report, Donald E. Williams, 43, 582 Sam Poole Lane, Taylorsville, N.C., was
traveling east on Interstate 40 when his 2004 Chrysler Pacifica hydroplaned
causing him to loose control of the vehicle.
DUI, public intoxication charges
Wednesday, April 23, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested
Laura Faye Mellor, 45, 3007 Gossmer Road, Cosby, on charges of public
intoxication.
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Jimmy G. Smith,
44, 1706 Edwina-Bridgeport Road, Newport, on charges of second-offense DUI.
Saturday, Dep. Robert Thornton arrested Raul C.
Jimenez, 36, Fish Farms, on charges of DUI and driving without a license.
Underage possession of alcohol
Monday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested both Kasey L.
Shelton, 19, 413 Seehorn Drive, Newport and Katilyn E. Miller, 18, 320 Filbert
St., Newport, on charges of underage possession of alcohol.
Failure to appear
Sunday, Dep. David Crowder arrested Scott T. McMahan,
29, 118 Rice St., Newport, on a charge of failure to appear.
Possession of schedule II drugs
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Edward Giles,
51, 1659 Hannon Road, Newport, on a charge of possession of schedule II drugs.
Multiple charges lead to arrest
Sunday, Sgt. Armando Fontes arrested Tommy W. Davis,
31, 3699 Point Pleasant Road, Newport, on charges of first offense DUI,
violation of the Tennessee Implied Consent law, driving without insurance,
improper display of a license plate and driving on a suspended license.
Chevy Roasted, owner arrested
Tuesday, April 22, Dep. Robert Thornton was dispatched
to Gossmer Road on a call concerning a truck that was on fire. Upon arrival,
Thornton found Richard Gradeless, 48, 3007 Gossmer Road, Cosby, in a wooded
area watching the fire. Gradeless reportedly smelled strongly of alcohol and
was unsteady on his feet. Gradeless told Thortnon he was trying to move the
1999 Chevrolet 1500 when the tires started smoking, which he alleged set the
truck afire. Gradeless then told Thornton the fire originated in the vehicle’s
engine area. Thornton found a gasoline jug under the truck and noticed a strong
odor of gasoline in the cab of the vehicle after it was extinguished. A search
revealed the vehicle’s gas tank wasn’t ruptured. Gradeless was arrested on
charges of arson, reckless burning, public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Police
Checkbooks stolen
Monday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson filled out an
incident report made by Carl Potter, 70, 628 Shepard Chapel Road, Rogersville,
concerning the theft of his two checkbooks from his residence. According to the
report, Potter stated he filed a report with the Hawkins County Sheriff’s
Department. Potter told Lawson three of the checks stolen were passed to
businesses in Newport. Potter resportedly believes a relative of his is
responsible for the theft. An estimated $365.52 has been written without
Potter’s consent.
