NEWPORT-The Newport Planning Commission approved four annexations areas and their plan of services from Highway 25/70's junction with Highway 25E and the Open Door Church. The infamous topic of annexation will be sent to the Newport City Council Tuesday, May 13. Council approved the study of all four areas April 8.

Commissioners also approved a site plan for Aaron's Rental, a business that will locate on the Joe Kyker property along the Cosby Highway. In addition, a four-lot subdivision has been approved on the Crowe property.

A request was made by two developers to recommend their property in the city's growth plan. Both the Vanderwoude property, which will comprise the proposed Exit 438, and the Crowe property behind Lowe's have been taken under consideration. However, property in Huff Hollow was disapproved because it could not be contingent with the city's urban growth boundary map.
