Trailer missing, straps, cords lifted

Thursday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to the home of Joseph Carl Mandigo, 50, 929 Meadowbrook Way, Cosby, on a call concerning the theft of several items from his residence. According to the report, Mandigo stated he left his residence around 6 a.m. and returned around 4 p.m. to discover his 17-foot trailer was gone along with 20 toeing straps, one tool box and 15 bungee cords. The estimated value of the missing tools and trailer is $1,330.

 

Utility meters tossed aside

Thursday, Lt. Rick Laws filled out an incident report made by an employee of Newport Utilities that discovered two meter boxes had been pulled from a residence at 960 Highway 25E and tossed into a weedy area nearby. The estimated cost of the vandalism is $250.

 

Explorer’s path leads to creek

Thursday, Sgt. Ricky Holt was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident off Big Creek Road. According to the report, Tommy P. Shelton, 44, 518 Crawly Drive, Newport, stated he was traveling south on Big Creek Road in his 2003 Ford Explorer and was negotiating a curve in the rain when the vehicle slid off the road and landed on its roof in the creek. The road was reportedly slick because of wet conditions.

 

Lumina hit

Thursday, Dep. Steve Johnson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on Bullard Drive. According to the report, Mary L. Dennis, 51, 1224 Applewood Way, Newport, was traveling west on Bullard Drive in her 1997 Chevrolet Lumina when her vehicle was struck head-on by a 1993 Chevrolet driven by Gregory C. Honeycutt, 34, 1755 Bullard Drive, Newport. Honeycutt reportedly lost control of the vehicle due to wet road conditions. Honeycutt was cited for failure to provide proof of financial responsibility.

 

Mississippi man arrested after wreck

Wednesday, Dep. Steve Johnson was dispatched to a one-vehicle accident on South Highway 32. According to the report, Joel D. Wright, 52, 4303 Tanglewood Drive, Vicksburg, Miss., was traveling south on South Highway 32 in a 1985 Nissan pickup when he veered off the roadway, struck a section of bridge railing, flipped and stopped in a creek. Wright was trapped in Nissan but was extricated by members of the Cosby Volunteer Fire Department. The driver was then taken to the Baptist Hospital of Cocke County were he was later released and arrested on charges of driving on a suspended license.

Pills plundered

Wednesday, Sgt. Scott Lamb filled out an incident made by Vickie L. Worthington, 43, 806 Henry Road, Newport, concerning the theft of various medications from her vehicle while it was parked at Baptist Hospital of Cocke County. According to the report, Worthington told police she went to the hospital to see a sick relative. Worthington reportedly failed to roll her vehicle’s window up after arriving at the hospital’s parking lot. A Zip-loc bag containing 138 pills was reportedly stolen from Worthington’s vehicle while she was in the hospital. The estimated value of the stolen pills is $100.

 

Meds taken from glove box

Monday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick was dispatched to the Wal-Mart parking lot on a call concerning the breaking and entering of a vehicle. Upon arrival, Elswick spoke with Elizabeth Lenz, no age given, 5123 Bogard Road, Cosby, who stated she and her mother had been shopping inside the supercenter for about an hour. When the two returned to the 1991 Honda Accord they were driving, they discovered the driver’s-side window had been shattered. The Honda belongs to Lenz’s boyfriend Tony Ball, 25, 547 Branam Hollow Road, Gatlinburg, and he reportedly kept his prescription medication in the car’s glove compartment, which looked as if it had been pried open then closed back. Ball’s prescription bottle of Hydrocodone was stolen. Lenz reported nothing else stolen from the vehicle at the time of the report. The estimated value of the stolen pills is $263.

 

Ford backs into Lexus

Thursday, Patrolwoman Heather Lawson was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the junction of Heritage Boulevard and the Cosby Highway. According to the report, both Bradley R. Webb, 30, 1101 Tuscon Way, Newport, and Emily K. Eisenhower, 16, 1245 Golf Course Road, Newport, were traveling west on Heritage Boulevard before coming to a stop for a red light at the junction with the Cosby Highway. Webb reportedly backed his 1997 Ford F-250 in an attempt to enter the Burger King parking lot and struck the 2007 Lexus Eisenhower was driving. Webb stated he couldn’t see the Lexus because his view was obstructed by equipment in the bed of his truck.

 

Ranger clips Altima

Thursday, Sgt. Scott Lamb was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the junction of East Sequoyah Drive and the Cosby Highway. According to the report, Deborah D. Williams, 37, 1100 Bens Way, Newport, had stopped her 2006 Nissan Altima on Sequoyah and was waiting to enter traffic on the Cosby Highway when a northbound 1996 Ford Ranger driven by John R. Hance, 18, 381 Middle Creek Road, Cosby, attempted to turn from the Cosby Highway onto Sequoyah and struck her vehicle on the driver’s-side.

 

Ram and Regal collide

Thursday, Patrolman Ricky Parton was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on the Cosby Highway near its junction with West Sequoyah Drive. According to the report, Billy C. Shoffner, 82, 250 Ramsey Hedges Access, Trenton, Ga., stated he was attempting to turn his 2000 Buick Regal onto West Sequoyah Drive from the northbound turning lane of the Cosby Highway when he collided with a 1997 Dodge Ram driven by William C. Johnson Jr., 2312 Highway 321, Parrottsville. Johnson stated he was traveling south on the Cosby Highway when Shoffner attempted to cross in front of him. Johnson told Parton he was unable to stop in time to avoid the collision.

 

Silverado maximized

Thursday, Patrolman David Smith was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on East Broadway near Overholt’s Hardware. According to the report, both James H. Gorman, 42, 1606 Log Church Road, Newport, and Rachael L. Recchia, 18, 2299 E. Highway 25.70, Del Rio, were traveling eastbound on East Broadway in their vehicles. When Gorman slowed his 2006 Chevrolet Silverado to make a left turn into Overholt’s parking lot, the rear of his pickup was struck by Recchia’s 2002 Nissan Maxima.
