WILTON SPRINGS-The Cocke County Sheriff's Department is investigating the discovery of a body found in a black Lexus at a popular fishing spot Thursday morning.

According to Detective Derrick Woods, a fisherman discovered a white male, possibly 30s, shortly before 7 a.m. in a parked car near the banks of the Pigeon River underneath the westbound Interstate-40 overpass between mile marker 438 and Exit 440. Woods said the cause of death has yet to be determined. Woods said the sheriff's department is still processing the area and is waiting to talk to the medical examiner before sending the body to UT Medical Center for an autopsy.

According to Woods, the license plate on the car was reported stolen from Pigeon Forge. When asked how long the body had been in the area, Woods said it has yet to be determined, however, he did note that the man was found in a highly trafficked area used by fisherman. In addition to the sheriff's office, the TBI and Newport Rescue Squad were also on scene.

The man's identity is being held pending notification of next of kin.
