NEWPORT-Every entrant in The Newport Plain Talk Football Contest for Week 6 had a winning record. And, it was a fight to the end among five of our contestants, all of whom went a perfect 10-0. Of the rest of our 78 contestants this week, 28 went 9-1, 31 went 8-2, 13 went 7-3 and one went 6-4.

Since we had five contestants tied at 10-0, we went to the tie-breaker, which was the Tennessee-Northern Illinois total points. Each of our contestants picked Tennessee, but Tracy Williams of Newport was closest to total points (Tennessee won it 13-9) with a guess of 35.

As our week 6 winner, Tracy will be picking up some great weekly prizes, including a $10 gift certificate from Pizza Plus, located at 733 Cosby Highway in Newport, and one free movie rental compliments of Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway in Newport.

The toughest pick this week was the Vanderbilt-Auburn game, which Vandy won 14-13 to remain undefeated on the season. Some went with Wisconsin over Ohio State, but the Buckeyes pulled it out late 20-17. And, on the high school level, a tough pick between Morristown West and Morristown East. The big rivalry went East's way Friday night, 21-14.

Finishing at 10-0 this past week, in addition to our winner Tracy Williams, were Scott McGaha, Adam Lovell, Kevin Halcomb and Mark Sandburg.

Finishing at 9-1 this past week were Cody Butler, Mike Butler, Jeff Large, Bill Templin, Robert Amick, Terry Quinton, Tracy Williamson, Darrin Costner, Rachel Allen, Ginger Hartsell, Ken Hall, Billy Roberts, Angie Wills, Julie Souder, Frank Bible, Jewell Ottinger, Diana Grooms, Hank Douglas, Sr., Jr. Phillips, Clint Ramsey, Walter Cole, Charles T. Finishing at 8-2 this past week was Brian Holt, Herbie Keller, Judy Williams, Rickie Jones, Karen Fraley, Johnny Hance, Evelyn Webb, Morgan Hall, Tristan Ball, John Jenkins, Penny Grooms, Eric R. Baxter, Ronnie D. McGaha, Brandon Lane, Jacob Wise, Jimmy Don Jones, Kenny Cody, Austin Ford, David Shelton, Betty McAndrew, Barbara Toby, Cody Hembree, A.C. Willis, H.D. Douglas, Jr., Jim Blazer, Mike Benson, Robert E. Gray, Cheryl Presnell, LuAnn Meadows, Chris Gregg and Melissa Webb.

Finishing at 7-3 last week were Matt Reid, Billy Massengill, Angela Barnes-Templin, Ronnie Leatherwood, Jordan Strange, James Roth, Derrick Webb, Marty Coakley, John David Bible, Hannah Neas, O.B. Barnett, Mitch Coakley and Brandon Clevenger.

And, finishing at 6-4 last week was Ricky Susong.

The standings are changing week by week as the contest moves along, so hang in there. And, you certainly want to be there in the end, because we have some dynamite prizes for you after the 10 weeks are complete.

Our overall winner at the end of the season will be presented the Grand Prize, one cinema party for the winner and 19 friends or family members from Newport Cinema 4, located at 424 Heritage Blvd. in Newport. This includes a movie complete with popcorn and drinks for the 20 attendees.

The runner-up at the end of the season will receive a portable DVD player from Movie Time Video, located at 150 East Broadway in Newport.

The third-place finisher will receive a $50 gift certificate from Poe's Sport Center, located at 160 Highway 25-E in Newport.

The fourth-place finisher will win a $50 gift certificate Dazzler's Diamond Showroom, located at 503 Cosby Highway in Newport.

The fifth-place finisher will win one night's lodging at any Motel 6, in Newport, located at 225 Heritage Blvd.

And, the sixth-place finisher will get a quick lube, oil and filter courtesy of Stinnett's, located at 1041 West Highway 25/70 in Newport.

Our college games for Week 7 include Tennessee at Georgia, LSU at Florida, Texas vs. Oklahoma (at Dallas), Penn State at Wisconsin and Oklahoma State at Missouri.
