According to Cocke County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Ricky Holt, Carson Wright, 39, 3180 Big Creek Road, Hartford, stated that around 10:45 p.m., he heard noises consistent with someone trying to break down the back door to his residence. Wright grabbed a .12-gauge shotgun, checked the inside of his home and then went outside to check the back of his residence. Once outside, Wright found two men hiding behind his home, who reportedly ran toward the road. Wright got into his vehicle as he watched the men leave the Pigeon Valley Church's parking lot in a dark colored Toyota pickup. Armed with his shotgun, Wright pursued the truck along Big Creek Road before it finally turned onto the Old Fifteenth Road, where it slide sideways and blocked the roadway. The passenger inside the Toyota reportedly exited the pickup and fired two shots toward Wright, striking the windshield of the victim's car. Wright told Holt he fired two shots from his shotgun back toward the suspects, striking the back glass windshield on the Toyota. The passenger reportedly got back into the Toyota, which sped away from the scene. Copyright © 2009, The Newport Plain Talk |
