The Cocke County Middle School softball squad ventured to White Pine Monday night for a double header against their toughest opponent on the schedule, Jefferson County Red. Although the Lady Red played tough, and gave Jeff County Red all they could handle, errors may have been the difference. In the opener, the Lady Red managed only two hits, one each from Autumn Bible and Abbie Ramsey, in a 6-1 loss. Bible took the loss in the circle, striking out three while walking three and giving up eight hits. The Lady Red also committed three errors in the contest. The nightcap was a slugfest with Red outlasting the Lady Red 12-7. The Lady Red committed six errors in this one. Ramsey got the start in the circle, pitching two innings. She had one strikeout and three walks, and gave up eight runs. Marlea Costner came on in relief, pitching two innings with two walks, and gave up four runs. Sydney Sneed led the Lady Red offensive attack with a double and stolen base. Leah Lewandowski had a single and a stolen base, while Kate Bryant had a single, a walk and five stolen bases. Allison Frazier had a single and four stolen bases. The Lady Red return to action this Friday, April 3, at Lady Red Field in Newport when they host Rutledge. First pitch is slated for 5:30 p.m. Copyright © 2009, The Newport Plain Talk |
