(Last modified: 2009-04-26 17:27:14) Source: The Newport Plain Talk NEWPORT--The Maid of Ramps pageant, which will be held in conjunction with the Cosby Ruritan Club Ramp Festival on Sunday, May 3, now has 15 contestants.
The two most recent entries are Kendra Renee Hall and Ashleigh Sacheen Rivera. Hall, the 19-year-old daughter of Shatan Newman and David Hall, of Parrottsville, attends Cocke County High School. She has brown hair and blue eyes. She was named Outstanding Senior and received several JROTC awards. Her hobbies are cheerleading, coaching, JROTC, playing clarinet in the band, and track. Sponsored by the English Mountain Chef, she will wear a blue gown accented with green over lace for the pageant. Rivera, the 17-year-old daughter of Tom and Janie Medford, of Cosby, has brown hair and brown eyes. She is a Cocke County High School junior. She enjoys cheerleading, gymnastics, modeling, and participating in beauty pageants. She plans to become a fashion designer. Sponsored by her parents, for the competition she will wear a black gown, which falls off the shoulders and is accented by a train. Entry forms for the pageant, which is open to misses 16 to 21, are available at The Newport Plain Talk office during business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. There is no fee to enter the pageant. Completed entry forms, along with a color photograph, should be returned to The Plain Talk during normal business hours. The pageant will begin at 12 noon, Sunday, May 3, but contestants are expected to be dressed, lined up, and ready by 11:45 a.m. Entries must be received by noon on Wednesday, April 29, or when 20 applications have been returned; whichever comes first.
