NEWPORT-The regular summer season is now complete for the TGA Junior Tour as local linksters tried to garner enough points from various tournaments throughout the summer to qualify for post-season tournament play.

This past week, the Junior Tour stopped at Clinchview Golf Club in Bean Station for a one-day event on Monday, July 13. In the Boy's 14-15 Masters Division, Newport's Brad Burchette finished 10th with a 15-over, 87. In Boy's 16-18 Masters Division play, Newport's Jake Shelton finished 3rd on 80, just three shots behind the winner, while Newport's Chase Atkins tied for 5th on 86. And in Girl's 12-14 Masters Division play, Newport's Cassidy Gibson was the class of the field with a winning 7-over, 79, nine shots better that second-place Rebecca Williams of Dandridge.

Also on Monday, July 13, the tour stopped at Baneberry Golf and Resort in Baneberry for a one-day event. Newport's Bud Perryman finished 5th with a 15-over, 86, in the Boy's 14-15 Masters Division. On the ladies' side, Newport's Victory Barrett finished 4th with a 22-over, 93 in the Girl's 15-18 Masters Division while Newport's Alayna Perryman took first place honors with a 35-over, 71 in the Girl's 8-11 Micro Division.

And on Thursday, July 16, the tour stopped at Crossings Golf Club in Jonesborough for a one-day event where Newport's Alayna Perryman finished 3rd with a 30-over, 66 in the Girl's 8-11 Micro Division.

With the summer season now completed, it's now time for post-season tournament play for those who qualified.

The Toyota Tour Division Regional Championships for our local golfers will be played Wednesday and Thursday, July 22-23, at Millstone Golf Club in Morristown.

The Toyota Aspen Grove Challenge for Micro Division golfers will be played Saturday and Sunday, July 25-26, at The Little Course at Conner Lane in Franklin.

The Toyota Tournament of Champions for Masters Division players will be held Tuesday and Wednesday, July 28-29, at The Golf Club of Tennessee at Kingston Springs. At this writing, it appears we have six golfers who have qualified: Cassidy Gibson (ranked 5th), Newport, Girl's 12-14 Masters Division (top 9 players invited); Lexi Clevenger (ranked 9th), Newport, Girl's 15-18 Masters Division (top 12 players invited); Zach Briggs (ranked 8th), Newport, Jake Shelton (ranked 10th), Newport and Chase Atkins (ranked 17th), Newport, Boy's 16-18 Masters Division (top 24 players invited); Jacob Quinton (ranked 15th), Newport, Boy's 14-15 Masters Division (top 21 players invited).
