GREENEVILLE-Jeannie Dawn James, one of 23 defendants indicted earlier this year as part of the "Hawk Organization," reached a plea agreement earlier this week before Judge Ronnie Greer in U.S. District Court.

James, 40, of Newport, will waive Indictment and arraignment and plead guilty to Count One, "which charges distribution of cocaine, a Schedule II controlled substance."

In consideration of defendant's guilty plea, the United States agrees to move the Court at the time of sentencing to dismiss the Indictment against the defendant in case.

According to Court records, "On August 30, 2008, in Newport, Cocke County, Tennessee, Jeannie Dawn James contacted Thomas Grant Williams and arranged for Williams to deliver a quantity of cocaine which had been requested by a third person.

"James told Williams that the money for the cocaine would be in the change holder of her car parked outside the convenience store where James was working. Williams was to take the money, leave the cocaine in the car, and then the third person was to get the cocaine out of James' car. Williams delivered a quantity of cocaine, leaving it in James' car and taking the money, $150.

"Shortly thereafter, James called Williams to report that the third person had complained to her that Williams had "shorted" them on the drug quantity. Williams asked "is that not what they wanted, an 8?" James told Williams "it wasn't an 8" and that Williams needed to give them $50. Williams told James to give the third person the $50 and he would pay her back. Williams then called James again and discussed the drug transaction further.

"The quantity of cocaine involved in the transaction was less than 25 grams."
