Several charges in arrest on Chicken Hollow Road
Ricky F. Hembree, 51, of 918 Chicken Hollow Road, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 12:15 a.m., and charged with: felon in possession of ammunition, possession of Schedule 3 Hydrocodone, capias out of Cocke County Circuit Court, burglary, theft under $500, vandalism, possession of stolen property over $1,000, felony escape, fleeing to evade arrest (two charges), and resisting arrest, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported.

Accident on English Mountain Road
Sandra E. Lamkey, 44, of 1932 Brooks Cemetery Road, in Newport, said she was headed south on English Mountain Road near Pinnacles Way, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, shortly after midnight, in a 2006 Dodge van, came around a curve, went off the right side of the road, and struck a light pole, Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings reported. She was not injured.

Accident on Rankin Road
A 1996 Dodge driven by Ricky D. Jenkins, 21, of 525 Charity Way, in Newport, collided with a 2006 Jeep driven by Christy D. Phillips, 31, of 1984 Hunture Way, in Newport, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, at about 5288 Rankin Road, Sgt. Tony Whitten reported.

Burglary reported
Lacy Frazier, 69, of Day Road, in Newport, said that on either Sunday, Oct. 18, or Monday, Oct. 19, someone removed the paneling from the rear of a trailer she owns on Maple Lane, in Newport, stole the hot water heater, siding and insulation that covered the heater, and cut the water and electrical lines, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported. The items are valued at $650.

Burglary on Splash Way reported
Donny Raines, 38, of Splash Way Road, in Newport, said that on Friday, Oct. 9, someone stole several items from under his carport, Sgt. Armando Fontes reported. Those items in his fishing boat included four bait casters ($225 each), four spinning rods ($150 each), one battery charger ($75), one leaf blower (120), and a Black & Decker drill ($89).

Theft of check reported
Daniel Cook, 27, of English Mountain Road, said that on Oct. 2, someone stole his payroll check from Aero Pro in the amount of $258.67, and cashed it at a local bank, Lt. Richard Caldwell reported.

Pocketbook reported stolen
Brittany Baxter, 20, of Green Hill Road, said that on Monday, Oct. 19, at about 11:30 p.m., she was talking to her friends in the parking lot of Save-A-Lot when two women she named took her pocketbook out of her car and left in their car, Constable Danny Hartsell reported. Items stolen included $1,200 in cash, the purse (valued at $150), medication (valued at $111), a wallet (valued at $100), and other items.

Gate to horse pasture stolen
Tim Workman, 34, of Dark Hollow Road, said that on Monday, Oct. 19, his daughter arrived home from school to find the gate to his horse pasture was gone, Deputy Sheriff Joseph Owings reported. The gate is valued at $200.

Truck taken from home property
Buddy George Greene Jr., 44, of Dawn Valley Road, in Parrottsville, stated that on Tuesday, Oct. 20, a person from an area pawn shop came onto his property without permission and took his 1995 Ford pickup truck, Lt. Rick Laws reported. The person allegedly took a four-by-twelve foot gate down to gain access to Greene's property, and damaged the gate.

Public intoxication arrest
Gerry L. Wilburn, 40, of 652 Myers Circle, in Newport, was arrested Wednesday, Oct. 21, and charged with public intoxication.

Accident on Main Street
A 1999 Chevrolet Cavalier driven by David H. Cuff, 46, of 1033 Chicken Hollow Road, in Newport, was rear-ended on Wednesday, Oct. 21, when stopped for traffic on Main Street at Woodlawn Avenue, by a 2003 Pontiac Grande Prix driven by Randy D. Renner, 45, of 2459 Highway 321, in Parrottsville, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported.

Counterfeit $100 bill discovered at Golden Dynasty
Maggie Zheng, of the Golden Dynasty, at 119 Western Plaza Drive, in Newport, said that Melanie Raines attempted to pay for her bill with a counterfeit $100 bill. She told Patrolman Amy Elswick that her husband had been paid with the counterfeit bill by a person he sold tires to. Raines stated that she told the cashier to call the police when it was discovered to be counterfeit.

Three forged checks
Bobby Huff, of Food City West, at 181 Western Plaza Way, in Newport, said that a woman cashed three personal checks not in her name, for $600, $800, and a third one for $800, as well, between Sept. 5 and Sept. 6. Patricia M. Cutshall, of Meadow Way, in Newport, was the victim of the stolen checks, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Counterfeit $50 bill at Kentucky Fried Chicken
Someone caught on video apparently passed a counterfeit $50 bill at Kentucky Fried Chicken on Saturday, Oct. 17, according to Manager Sherri Holt, Capt. Ronnie Landers reported.

Tires and wheels reported stolen
Gary Pendergrass Jr., 35, of Belton Avenue, in Newport, said someone stole four tires on four aluminum wheels lying on the ground outside his home, sometime between Saturday, Oct. 17, and Wednesday, Oct. 21, Patrolman William Garber reported.

Suspected fraud
Bella's Country Kitchen voided a credit card transaction for $1,534, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, after believing an unknown person had been trying to use a credit card illegally, Capt. Brad Ball reported.

Bank account missing thousands of dollars
Mildred Haloe, 68, of Industrial Road, in Newport, said she was missing several thousands of dollars from her account, from Sept. 5 to Oct. 16. A suspect was named, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Burglary/auto
Susan L. McGaha and Amanda Evans, of Jefferson Avenue, in Newport, named a person they believe is responsible for the stealing of several items from a 1995 Honda Accord, on either Friday, Oct. 16, or Saturday, Oct. 17, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported. The stolen items totaled $1,199, and included a radio, two portable DVD players, and two speakers.

Breaking and entering/theft under $500
Terrence Davidson, 18, of Mountain View Street, in Newport, said that on Saturday, Oct. 17, someone stole a dual CD/DVD player worth approximately $450 from his 1995 Chevrolet pickup truck, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

Breaking and entering of residence
Lynda Gray, 53, of Old Cave Church Road, said someone broke into her home and stole several electronics and medication belonging to her and her daughter, Emily Pierce, 22, worth $1,785, according to a report by Patrolman Heather Lawson.

Breaking and entering/theft over $1,000
Jimmy Fine, 19, of Black Walnut Street, in Newport, said he and Samantha Wright left their residence on Thursday, Oct. 15, and returned the next day, and found someone had broke into their home and stolen several items rented from EZ Rental, Patrolman Travis Gorrell stated. Items included an E-Machines desktop computer (valued at approximately $300), a 42-inch LG flat screen TV ($1,000), a PlayStation 3 ($1,000), a small safe, and $500 in cash that was in the safe, Patrolman Travis Gorrell reported.

Assault alleged
Doris Jean Meece, 32, of Greggs Lane, in Newport, said a woman assaulted her in her home on Saturday, Oct. 17, Patrolman Robby McMahan reported. A suspect was named.

Riding lawn mower stolen from church
George Lane of River View Baptist Church, on River Street, in Newport, said that sometime between Sunday, Oct. 11, and Saturday, Oct. 17, someone broke into the storage room of the church and stole a red Murray riding lawn mower valued at $850, Capt. Ronnie Landers reported.

Vandalism alleged
Donald Roe, of Myers Circle, in Newport, said someone damaged his 1993 Oldsmobile, breaking the back window and denting the tailgate. There was red paint on Roe's vehicle, apparently a result of another vehicle striking the rear of his Oldsmobile, Capt. Ronnie Landers reported.

Breaking and entering/theft under $500
Landon Sutton, 15, of Mountain View, in Newport, said someone broke into his 1992 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Saturday, Oct. 17, and stole a Panasonic CD player and wiring harness he valued at $160, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Reckless driving/car crash
Carla Antrican, 38, of Hilltop Drive, in Newport, was taken to a hospital with a possible head injury and hurt right leg, after the driver of the 1993 GMC pickup truck she was in, Charlie Pleasant Antrican, 36, allegedly swerved to the right and struck a handicapped pole in order to avoid a head-on collision with a silver Jeep Liberty that was driven through the Newport Towne Center parking lot on Friday, Oct. 16, at a high rate of speed, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Assaulted after vehicle pulled over
Julie Root, 26, of Corn Hollow Road, in Newport, said someone she knows hit her with their fist approximately 10 times, through the driver side window of a 1998 Chevrolet S10 pickup truck that Root had been forced to pull over and stop by the assailant, Lt. Terry Lawson reported.

Counterfeit money
A counterfeit $10 bill was discovered on Saturday, Oct. 17, by Sissy Roach at Walmart when she started counting registers from the previous day, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Best Western awning struck by tractor trailer
Inezie Stuart, of Best Western, at 1015 Cosby Highway, in Newport, said that on Wednesday, Oct. 21, a tractor trailer driven through the motel's parking lot struck one corner of the awning over the main entrance to the lobby, Patrolman William Garber reported. The awning was valued at $500.

Destruction of private property
A transfer truck allegedly broke a traffic light in front of Debbie's Drive-In on Highway 25/70 West, at 4 p.m., on Monday, Oct. 19, and the driver did not stop, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported. Two witnesses said the name on the side of the truck was Elmo Greer & Sons. The owner was contacted. The Newport Utilities light is valued at $1,500. Officers found part of the traffic light laying on the ground and the other half hanging by a couple of wires.

Counterfeit $20 bill
On Wednesday, Oct. 21, a cashier found a counterfeit $20 bill taped to an office door at a Texaco gas station, at 1301 West Highway 25/70, in Newport, Patrolman Matt Franklin reported. The bill was allegedly accepted at the gas station on the previous night by another cashier. There was no description of the possible suspect.

Counterfeit bill at Walmart
Jack Davis, front end manager at Walmart, at 1075 Cosby Highway, in Newport, said a clerk gave an unidentified woman a counterfeit $20 bill as change, on Tuesday, Oct. 20. The bill apparently marked as good, but "did not feel right," Patrolman Billy Woody reported.

Theft/fraud over $1,000
Officials at GreenBank, at 602 Cosby Highway, in Newport, said they had received a check from "T.W. Garner Food Company" valued at $2,500 on Monday, Oct. 5, that a local woman brought in to the bank and cashed. The company told GreenBank officials they had not issued a check to the woman, which was for "mystery shopping". The woman allegedly agreed to return to the bank on Monday, Oct. 19, to discuss the matter, but she never showed up for the meeting, nor could she be reached by phone, Patrolman Matthew Elliott reported.

Theft from vehicle
Lucy Stepp, 63, of Stepp Road, in Bybee, said someone took her purse from the trunk of her vehicle that she accidentally left open while at the Family Dollar parking lot at 306 West Broadway, in Newport, on Tuesday, Oct. 20, Sgt. David Smith reported. The purse, valued at $10, had about $120 in cash in it, a bank debit card, license, and Lowe's card.

Arrested for theft under $500
James Puckett, 24, of 1267 Robuck Way, in Cosby, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 20, for theft under $500. Puckett was allegedly seen walking down Cosby Highway with three wooden bears and a wooden bench with bears on the ends that was stolen from Williams Lawn Care on Sept. 29, Patrolman Donald Coakley reported.

Arrest in Asheville, N.C. for theft in Newport
Jonathan M. Swanson, 37, of 253-E Duplin Valley Road, in Kodak, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 20, in Asheville, N.C., and charged with theft over $1,000. He was suspected of stealing a 1997 Nissan pickup truck from White's Monuments at 205 East Broadway, on Sept. 7, Capt. James Holt reported. Holt contacted police in North Carolina, where they found Swanson at his family's home and arrested him. He was returned to the jail in Cocke County.

Theft under $500 and criminal trespassing
Clemmie J. Davis, 29, of 104 Meeks Way, in Newport, was arrested Tuesday, Oct. 20, and charged with theft under $500 and criminal trespassing. Davis was allegedly seen taking a pair of tennis shoes from Walmart without paying for them. He had allegedly been served previously by Walmart staff with a criminal trespass notice, Patrolman David R. Smith reported.

Accident on Filbert Street at Second Street
A 2001 Ford Taurus driven by Christopher Norton, 21, of 1466 Lark Road, in Newport allegedly pulled out from Filbert Street, on Monday, Oct. 19, and struck a 2009 Chevrolet driven by Mandy Callison, 29, of 2660 Lukins Drive, in Norris, Tenn., Sgt. Jason Smith reported. Callison was transported by Allied Ambulance to Baptist Hospital of Cocke County after his Chevrolet was struck in the passenger side rear quarter panel.
