NEWPORT-"Toys For Tots" volunteers are accepting donations of money to buy toys, as well as toys in good shape, to help a needy child in our community get at least one gift at Christmas.

The Newport Fire Department will accept monetary donations or toys any time during the day at its main fire hall at 103 C Avenue. The phone number is (423) 613-4047.

The toys will be distributed on a Saturday in December, according to Fire Chief Randy Ragan.

Shawn Hudson, a firefighter and President of the Newport Firefighters Association, is coordinating the local effort.
