Barnes arrest: Officers were dispatched to 1035 Cosby Highway, concerning a female subject who was sleeping inside a vehicle on Tuesday, Nov. 5. Upon arrival, Patrolman Shane Bower found the female in question, identified as Misty L. Barnes, 41, Greystone Way, “slumped” over the center console. Ptl. Bower said as he woke up Barnes and was speaking with her, Barnes was “lethargic” and was confused. According to the report, Barnes admitted to taking Suboxone. She was then placed under arrest without incident. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed one pill identified as Suboxone. She was charged with public intoxication and possession of schedule III.
DUI: Steven E. Askew, 60, 1204 East Highway 25/70, was arrested by the Newport Police Department for driving under the influence on Monday, Nov. 4. Patrolman Brandon Cassady was dispatched to Weigels concerning a male subject who was “nodding off” while pumping gas. Upon arrival, Ptl. Cassady came in contact with Askew and noticed his speech was slurred. Officers administered a field sobriety test to Askew and he performed poorly on all tests given. Askew was arrested and transported to the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Curtis arrest: A Newport man is facing a pair of charges after police reports say he caused a disruption at Waffle House Monday night. Patrolman Will Garber was dispatched to the restaurant concerning an unwanted visitor. Upon arrival, Ptl. Garber spoke with Elizabeth Banks, who said Jacob Allen Curtis, 22, was cursing and threatening several employees and customers. According to the report, Curtis had an odor of alcohol about his person, therefore, he was placed under arrest without further incident. Curtis was charged with public intoxication and disorderly conduct.
Herndon arrest: A Newport registered sex offender was arrested Monday afternoon after law enforcement officials learned that minors had been staying at his residence. Detective Scott Lamb said he went to the residence of Gregory Cody Herndon, 34, South Cecil Street. Upon arrival, Detective Lamb spoke with Herndon’s girlfriend, who admitted her children stayed the night at the residence this past weekend. Herndon was placed under arrest without incident.
Lowery arrest: David Lynn Lowery, 45, Fine Street, was served with active outstanding warrants for sale and delivery of schedule II (two counts) on Monday, Nov. 4. Captain Derrick Webb arrested Lowery without incident at his residence.
