Domestic assault: Deputies were dispatched to 104 Green Valley Road, in reference to a domestic assault on Thursday, June 6. Upon arrival, Deputy Wes Keys spoke with Cynthia Booth, 48, who said while she and her brother, Jonathan Michael Swanson, 46, were arguing, he allegedly “chest bumped” her, pushed her against the wall, and threw a cup of liquid on her. Swanson was detained and placed under arrest. He was charged with domestic assault.
Domestic assault: Mattea Fuller, 19, came to the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, June 4 to report an assault that occurred. Sgt. Chris Barnes spoke with Fuller, who said she and Austin Hawk, 19, were involved in an altercation when he reportedly bit her on the shoulder and threw her on the ground. According to the report, Metta said as she got in the driver’s seat of her vehicle, Hawk grabbed her neck from behind and caused her to have difficulty breathing.
Domestic assault: Deputies were dispatched to the 1300 block of Fairfax Road, concerning a domestic altercation on Wednesday, June 5. Upon arrival, Lt. Michael Whitmer spoke with Kennith Elmer Wesson, 69, who said he got into an argument with his stepson, identified as James Smith, 47, and the argument escalated when Smith kicked Wesson in the face. Smith fled the scene prior to deputies’ arrival but was found a short time later. He was arrested and charged with domestic assault.
Probation violation: Megan Renee Merwin, 31, Epley Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Wednesday, June 5. Deputy Blake Cupp arrested Merwin without incident and transported her to the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Probation violation: Jessica Nicole McGaha, 33, Dandridge, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Tuesday, June 4. Lt. David Moriarty served McGaha the warrant at the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Failure to appear: Randy Allen McClure, 26, Pigeon Forge, was served with an active outstanding warrant for failure to appear on Tuesday, June 4. Deputy Jacob Damron served McClure the warrant at the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Probation violation: Benjamin Allison, 25, Sub Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Tuesday, June 4. Deputy Jacob Damron served Allison the warrant at the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Markley arrest: A Newport man is facing an array of charges following a traffic stop on Wednesday, June 5. Deputy Blake Cupp reported he conducted a traffic stop on Highway 25/70 after he saw a vehicle that had the wrong tag displayed on the vehicle. At that time, Deputy Cupp came in contact with the driver, Derek F. Markley, 36, Old Solomon Ferry Road, along with a female passenger, Angel Vargas, and a two-year-old child. Markley admitted he did not have a valid Tennessee Driver’s License and his vehicle was not registered. According to the report, both Markley and Vargas were removed from the vehicle and gave consent for deputies to search the vehicle. Deputy Daniel Smith then arrived on scene with his K9 and the K9 alerted deputies of illegal narcotics inside the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a baggie that contained 1.7 grams of methamphetamine, two pipes, a straw, 14 Dicloxacillin Sodium capsules, and another baggie of various narcotics that was underneath the child’s car seat. Markley was placed under arrest and charged wit possession of schedule II, possession of legend drug, possession of drug paraphernalia, child abuse and child neglect, driving while license suspended, and violation of registration law.
