Ramsey arrest: Melissa K. Ramsey, 41, Valley View Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for failure to appear on Wednesday, July 10. Patrolman Joshyua Shults arrested Ramsey without incident and transported her to the Cocke County Jail Annex.

Couple charged: A Newport couple is facing charges following an investigation on Thursday, July 11. Newport Police officers were dispatched to Walmart concerning possible drug activity. Upon arrival, Sgt. Donald Coakley and Patrolman Will Garber came in contact with Tracy L. Lunsford, 36, 5th Street and Adam D. Ortiz, 27, Old River Road. Officers obtained verbal consent to search the vehicle where they found a .22 pistol under the driver’s seat and three baggies that contained 1.06 grams of suspected methamphetamine. Both Lunsford and Ortiz did not claim the firearm or drugs. They were arrested and charged with possession of firearm and possession for resale.

Overdose: Officers were dispatched to the Citgo gas station on West Broadway concerning a male passed out in a vehicle on Wednesday, July 10. Upon arrival, Patrolman Johnathan Ball found the male in question, identified as Jonathan D. Burgess, 38, Woodlawn Avenue, who was “slumped” over the steering wheel and unresponsive. First Call EMS was called to the scene. While waiting for EMS, Ptl. Ball and Ptl. Shane Bower administered a dose of Narcan to Burgess and began performing CPR until medical personnel arrived. According to the report, Burgess had “track marks” on his arm which led officers to believe he overdosed. Burgess was transported to Newport Medical Center and then later transported to Parkwest Medical Center. No narcotics were found at the scene.
