Warrant served: Robin L. Samples, 57, Neddy Mountain Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for hindering a secured creditor on Monday, Aug. 12. Sgt. Derek Wright arrested Samples without incident at a residence on 8th Street.

Smith arrest: Officers were dispatched to McDonald’s concerning a female who was passed out inside a vehicle on Monday, Aug. 12. Upon arrival, Patrolman Jessy Burgess located the female in question, identified as Marcie N. Smith, 48, 6th Street, who was “slumped” over in the driver seat with the vehicle still on. Ptl. Burgess said after he woke Smith, he asked her where she thought she was and she said, “Kingsport.” According to the report, Smith allegedly had slurred speech and had a difficult time keeping her eyes open. Ptl. Burgess reported Smith was unable to participate in field sobriety test due to her level of intoxication. She was placed under arrest and charged with driving under the influence (4th offense).

Assault: A Newport man reported he was assaulted while at his residence on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Sgt. Donald Coakley spoke with the male victim, identified as Jonathan Shelton, who said while he was at his English Street residence, John Barrett allegedly attacked him. Shelton advised Barrett fled the scene prior to officers’ arrival.
