Dunn arrest: Officers were dispatched to the State Probation Office concerning an aggressive male subject on Tuesday, June 11. Upon arrival, Patrolman Jordan Douglas said he could hear the suspected male, identified as Gary D. Dunn, 39, Greasy Cove Road, yelling. Dunn was detained without further incident. According to the report, officers spoke with an employee, who said Dunn entered the office with a small plastic bottle of urine concealed in his possessions. As she approached Dunn, he reportedly became “hostile” and “aggressive.” The bottle was recovered and disposed. Upon arrival at the Cocke County Jail Annex, Dunn made several threats about probation officers and admitted to having the bottle of urine. Dunn was charged with falsifying drug screen, assault, and disorderly conduct.

Trio charged: Three men were arrested by the Newport Police Department after they stole several items from a business on Wednesday, June 12. Detective Derrick Webb reported he and other officers were dispatched to Lowe’s concerning active shoplifters. While en route, officers learned the three men fled the scene. Officers located the suspected vehicle and conducted a traffic stop without incident. At that time, Det. Webb came in contact with the driver, Ricky E. Smith, 54, Old Fort, NC, and two passengers, Joshua A. Byrd, 36, Black Mountain Road, and Rusty J. Pearson, 24, Hillsboro, OH. According to the report, the three men admitted to stealing six boxes of Dewalt tools valued at $1,474. The items were recovered and all three men were taken into custody. They were charged with theft of $1,000-$10,000, theft of property, and criminal conspiracy.

Frazier arrest: A Newport man was charged with public intoxication after he was found sleeping on a shelf inside a store on Thursday, June 13. Newport Police Sgt. Matthew Elliott reported he was dispatched to Walmart due to an impaired male subject. Upon arrival, Sgt. Elliott spoke with a manager, who said Billy W. Frazier, 28, Dykes Street, fell inside the store several times and then laid down on a shelf and went to sleep. According to the report, Sgt. Elliott said he found Frazier still asleep on the shelf. As officers woke up Frazier, they noticed he had slurred speech. Frazier reportedly admitted to doing heroin prior. For his safety, he was taken into custody.

Mantooth arrest: Glen A. Mantooth, 29, River Road, was served with active outstanding warrants for burglary of an auto and theft on Thursday, June 13. Sgt. Matthew Elliott reported he spotted Mantooth in the area of 8th Street and knew he had active warrants. According to the report, as officers attempted to speak with Mantooth, he fled the scene. Officers chased Mantooth and apprehended him a short time later. He was additionally charged with evading arrest.

Break-in: Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of River Road, in reference to a break-in on Wednesday, June 12. Upon arrival, Patrolman Michael Robey spoke with Ofelia Rodriguez, 48, who said someone broke into her home and stole a television, washing machine, dryer, refrigerator, microwave, and stove. The items were valued at $2,000.

Burglary: Mark Adamson, 69, Cosby Highway, reported a burglary to the Newport Police Department on Thursday, June 13. Patrolman Michael Robey spoke with Adamson, who said someone broke into his tool shed and stole an array amount of tools. The estimated value was $825.
