Failure to appear: Richard Preston, 32, Carson Springs Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for failure to appear on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Sgt. Max Laughter served Preston the warrant at the Cocke County Jail Annex.

Failure to appear: Ernest T. Miller, 20, 7th Street, was served with an active outstanding warrant for failure to appear on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Sgt. Max Laughter served Miller the warrant at the Cocke County Jail Annex.

Campbell arrest: John Travis Campbell, 37, Bucks Way, was served with an active outstanding warrant for failure to appear on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Sgt. Max Laughter served Campbell the warrant at the Cocke County Jail Annex.

Grooms arrest: A routine traffic stop netted the arrest of a Newport man on Monday, Aug. 12. Sgt. Heath Willis stopped a Kia Spectra, operated by Jonathan L. Grooms, 30, Cosby Highway, due to a light law violation. Upon stopping the vehicle at Walgreens, Sgt. Willis came in contact with Grooms and learned he had an invalid Tennessee Driver’s License. According to the report, Deputy Daniel Smith and K9 Hammer were called to the scene where Deputy Smith deployed his K9 to conduct a “free air sniff” of the vehicle. Deputies stated K9 Hammer altered deputies to several spots on the vehicle. A subsequent search of the vehicle revealed a baggie that contained suspected heroin, needles and another baggie of methamphetamine. Sgt. Willis also noted the vehicle’s tag was altered and expired. Grooms was arrested and charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, violation of financial responsibility, altering auto tags, possession of schedule II, possession of schedule I, sale, delivery, manufacture, or possession of drugs, light law violation, and driving unlicensed.

Probation violation: Trinity D. Sells, 40, Royal Way, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Tuesday, Aug. 13. Lt. David Moriarty arrested Sells at a residence on Bear Road without incident.

Failure to appear: Audie R. Perkins, 41, Sevierville, was served with active outstanding warrants for failure to appear (two counts) on Wednesday, Aug. 14. Sgt. Heath Willis served Perkins the warrants at the Cocke County Jail Annex.
