Probation violation: Harold D. Jenkins, 25, Finchum Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Patrolman Paul Weber arrested Jenkins following a traffic stop without incident.
Assault: Officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Smith Street, concerning an assault that occurred on Monday, Sept. 2. Upon arrival, Patrolman Jordan Douglas spoke with Iris Hayes, 48, who said she and her boyfriend, Bobby W. Williams, 50, were arguing when Williams reportedly began removing the doors from the residence. According to the report, Hayes said as she attempted to stop Williams from doing so, he allegedly shoved her to the ground. Officers observed a wound that Hayes sustained to her knee. Williams was arrested and charged with assault.
Warrant served: Jeremy D. Brown, 33, Dykes Street, was served with an active outstanding warrant for aggravated burglary on Thursday, Sept. 5. Patrolman Will Garber arrested Brown at his residence without incident.
Kittel arrest: Officers were dispatched to the area of East Broadway Street concerning a possible impaired driver on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Upon arrival, Patrolman Shane Bower located the suspected vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. According to the report, before Brian A. Kittel, 44, Privet Drive, came to a stop, he nearly struck Patrolman Chris Silvers’ patrol vehicle. As officers approached Kittel, they noted he had an odor of alcohol about his person, slurred speech and he was unsteady on his feet. Officers administered a field sobriety test and Kittel performed poorly on one test and refused to participate in any more tests. He was arrested without incident. Upon inventory of the vehicle, officers located an open bottle of vodka. Kittel was charged with driving under the influence, reckless endangerment, reckless driving and open container violation.
Warrant served: Jessica M. Massengill, 29, Golf Club Drive, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Patrolman Shane Bower arrested Massengill without incident and transported her to the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Warrant served: Charles W. Sprouse, 40, Sweetwater Road, was served with an active outstanding warrant for violation of probation on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Patrolman Shane Bower arrested Sprouse without incident following a traffic stop.
Hurst arrest: Officers were dispatched to the area of White Oak Avenue concerning an intoxicated male subject on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Upon arrival, Patrolman Jordan Douglas located the male in question, identified as Bruce Lee Hurst, 37, Apple Way, who was only wearing socks and shorts. As officers made contact with Hurst, they noted he could not stand still and kept saying there were people hiding in his washing machine. Officers determined Hurst was under the influence of a narcotic. As officers attempted to place Hurst under arrest, he actively resisted by swinging his arms and kicking at officers. He was eventually placed in handcuffs and transported to the Cocke County Jail Annex. Hurst was charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest.
Finchum arrest: Megan L. Finchum, 23, was served with active outstanding warrants for resisting arrest, evading arrest (two counts), escape, theft, and failure to appear on Wednesday, Sept. 4. Patrolman Brandon Cassady arrested Finchum without incident and transported her to the Cocke County Jail Annex.
Threatening text message: The Newport Police Department received a complaint of a threatening text message on Tuesday, Sept. 3. Captain Matthew Elliott spoke with the victim, Dolores Holt, 67, who said she received a text message from Jackie Williams that stated she (Holt) needed to deal with Williams out of town. Holt said she took the message as a threat and filed a report.
