COSBY--Four more misses have announced they will vie for
the title of Maid of Ramps. The pageant will be held during the Cosby Ruritan
Club Ramp Festival on Sunday, May 4, at noon on Kineauvista Hill.
Entry is limited to the first 20 contestants ages 16 to
21. There is no entry fee. The deadline to return the completed application
form and color photograph to The Newport Plain Talk is noon on Wednesday, April
30, or when 20 entries have been received, whichever comes first.
These four contestants bring the total entries to eight
thus far.
Stacie Rae Holder, the 18-year-old daughter of Ben and
Marie Holder, of Newport, is a senior at Cocke
County High School (CCHS) and is currently attending Walters State
Community College to be a
dental assistant.
She has blonde hair and brown eyes.
With a grade-point average of 3.67, she is an honor roll
student.
She was chosen to attend All-East Choir and was an
alternate for All-State Choir.
Her hobbies include singing, going to church, listening
to and singing bluegrass, riding four-wheelers, and playing with animals.
She is sponsored by Marie Woods, of Scenic Realty.
Wendy Gail Hannah, the 18-year-old daughter of Burt and
RenŽ Hannah, of Newport, attends Cosby High
School.
She has auburn hair and green eyes.
Her hobbies include scrapbooking, photography, spending
time with friends and family, shopping, and sleeping.
Sponsored by Shirley's Family Restaurant, Hannah will
wear a blue and green gown featuring a beaded bustline and halter with a
two-layer skirt.
Kara Marie Raleigh, the 18-year-old daughter of Andrea
and Peter Gooderham, of Bybee, is a senior at Cocke County
High School.
She has blonde hair and green eyes.
She is an academic letterman in social sciences, and
received numerous art show awards at CCHS and the Rose
Center in Morristown.
In addition, she received first place honors for Future
Business Leaders of America (FBLA) in a regional competition for business
communications.
In her spare time, she enjoys reading and painting as
well as spending time with friends and family. She participates with many
clubs, including Student Council, Beta Club, FBLA, and Art Club.
She is employed by Ruby Tuesday.
She plans to attend East Tennessee
State University
where she will major in education this fall.
Sponsored by her parents, Raleigh will wear a long black gown accented
with rhinestones on the straps featuring a low-cut back where the straps
criss-cross.
Leah A. Simms, the 17-year-old daughter of John and Kim
Vick, of Parrottsville, is a senior at CCHS.
She has blonde hair and green eyes.
She enjoys hiking and rafting in her spare time.
She has been active with Student Council the past four
years while serving as class treasurer the latter two years. In addition, she
has served as vice president of the Beta Club.
Simms has been actively involved on the CCHS Chanticleer
staff the past two years. She is a member of Parrottsville
United Methodist
Church and volunteers at Laughlin Memorial Hospital.
Her plans are to attend East Tennessee
State University
this fall and pursue a career in nursing.
Her parents are sponsoring her.
There will not be an interview question. Judging will be
based on beauty, stage appearance, modeling, and showmanship. The first to
enter will be the last to model. For a $10 fee, contestants may enter a
"Most Beautiful" competition on the day of the pageant.
The Maid of Ramps will crown the Little Miss/Master
pageant on the stage at the top of the hill starting at 2 p.m.
