COSBY--Four more misses have announced they will vie for
the title of Maid of Ramps. The pageant will be held during the Cosby Ruritan
Club Ramp Festival on Sunday, May 4, at noon on Kineauvista Hill.
Entry is limited to the first 20 contestants ages 16 to
21. There is no entry fee. The deadline to return the completed application
form and color photograph to The Newport Plain Talk is noon on Wednesday, April
30, or when 20 entries have been received, whichever comes first.
These four contestants bring the total number of entries
to 12 thus far.
Krista Anthony is the 16-year-old daughter of Raymond and
Linda Anthony, of Newport.
She has brown hair and brown eyes.
A sophomore at Cocke County High School (CCHS), she was a
Miss Junior Teen Tennessee finalist. She is a member of the speech team and was
chosen as a People to People ambassador.
She also enjoys participating in the mock trial, is a
member of Beta Club, and participates in the Relay for Life.
Anthony plans to attend Austin Peay
State University
to major in pediatric nursing.
Sponsored by Honey-Do Handy Man and family, she will wear
a luminous shiny pink full-length gown.
Leah Denise Parton, the 18-year-old daughter of Terry and
Michelle Parton, of Seymour, is a senior at Seymour High School where she will be graduating
as valedictorian. She is employed by Tennessee State Bank.
Parton has blonde hair and blue eyes.
A member of the Beta Club, the National Honors Society,
Golden Shield Society, P-Teens Teen Board, Art Club, Junior Classical League,
and Smoky Mountain Youth Leadership, she enjoys community service, including
helping with the Fantasy of Trees, Special Olympics, and Veterans Day programs.
She enjoys NASCAR races, art, and eating biscuits and
gravy.
Parton said she describes herself as creative, charming,
and funny. She plans to attend the University
of Tennessee in the fall
to pursue a career as a dentist.
Sponsored by family, she will wear long black gown featuring
silver accents around the waistline.
Elizabeth Carol Johnson, the 17-year-old daughter of Dr.
Ken and Carol Johnson, of Newport,
is a senior at CCHS.
She has blonde hair and blue eyes.
Her honors include being a 2006 National History Day
finalist, the 2008 Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Good Citizen
Award, serving as CCHS Beta Club president, serving as 2007 Veterans Day
program coordinator, being named 2007 Eastern National 4-H Horse Team
Demonstration Champion, and being a 2007 Teen Board presentee.
She enjoys horseback riding, 4-H activities and
competitions, hiking, reading, traveling, church activities, and participating
in Newport Theatre Guild events.
She plans to enter the University
of Tennessee, Knoxville, this fall to study pre-veterinary
animal science in fall 2008.
Sponsored by Newport Internal Medicine, she plans to wear
a backless royal blue gown featuring an empire waist with gold beading and
styled with Egyptian influences accented with a petite train.
Sydne Grace Ottinger, the 16-year-old daughter of Mike
and Louanna Ottinger, of Newport,
is a junior at CCHS.
She has brown hair and green eyes and is a disc jockey at
92.9 WNPC and is a hostess at Sagebrush Steakhouse.
Ottinger has been chosen a 2008 Teen Board presentee. She
is a member of FCCLA and the Adventure Club at CCHS. She enjoys hunting,
camping, shopping, and hanging out with friends.
Sponsored by her parents, she will wear a white
floor-length gown.
There will not be an interview question. Judging will be
based on beauty, stage appearance, modeling, and showmanship. The first to
enter will be the last to model. For a $10 fee, contestants may enter a
"Most Beautiful" competition on the day of the pageant.
The Maid of Ramps will crown the Little Miss/Master pageant
on the stage at the top of the hill starting at 2 p.m.
