POLICE
Theft reported
Amy Ottinger, 21, 1218 Garner Road, Newport, reported
the theft of several items Friday from her 2000 Ford Mustang while it was
parked at Family Inn. According to Sgt. Jerry Shelton, Ottinger said someone
entered her vehicle by way of a damaged door and took a Jensen TV/DVD player
combo, two Quality 12" speakers, and a 1600 watt amplifier with a total
estimated value of $1300.
Alleged assault
Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham responded to a reported
assault on Saturday. According to Higginbotham, Kenny McMahan, 56, 416 Viewmont
Circle, said that while he was at Parkway Inn, a man and a woman knocked on his
door and wanted "money to buy some dope." Higginbotham's report
states that when McMahan told them he had no money, the man assaulted him and
the couple left. Afterwards, according to Higginbotham, McMahan noticed that
his car keys, a shirt, and a cap were missing. There are two suspects in the
incident.
Domestic assault/vandalism
Patrolman Jason Smith answered a call to 337 Graham
Street on Saturday. Upon his arrival, Kathy Collier, 26, told him that her
boyfriend had kicked open her front door and entered the dwelling, arguing and
yelling. Then, according to Smith, Collier said the boyfriend grabbed her arm
and choked her. Smith's report states that red marks were noticeable on
Collier's arms and neck and that damage to the door was visible. Smith advised
Collier on the process to obtain an order of protection.
Theft under $500
The theft of $300 was reported to Newport Patrolman
Jason Smith on Saturday by Tenisha Leshea Ray, 17, 511 Carnation Way. According
to Smith, Ray said that after visiting a friend, she noticed the money missing
from her purse. Two suspects are named in the report.
Ellison arrested
Brandi Ellison, 29, 1268 Moon Glow Way, was charged
with violation of probation by Patrolman Stephen Higginbotham on Friday.
SHERIFF DEPARTMENT
Multiple charges filed
Sgt. Armondo Fontes filed several charges against
Danny D. Antrican, 51, 1331 Slop Creek Road, Morristown, on Friday. According
to Fontes, officers were dispatched to a residence on O'Neil Road concerned an
intoxicated male causing problems. Upon their arrival, they found Antrican
sitting behind the wheel of a 1993 Ford Ranger. Upon further investigation,
they discovered that Antrican has nine prior DUI charges since 1977. Antrican
was charged with 10th offense DUI, violation of open container law, 4th offense
driving on revoked license, disorderly conduct, and violation of implied consent
law.
Sutton charged
Hollis Sutton, 47, 522 Breeze Way, Newport, was
charged with failure to appear in Cocke County Sessions Court on March 14,
2008, by Sgt. Tony Whitten on Saturday.
Theft over $1,000
Charles Robert Prevost, 41, 325 Hun Way, Newport,
faces a charge of theft over $1,000 following his arrest by Detective Brian
Murr on Friday. According to Murr's report, Prevost was charged with the theft
of a 1991 Chrysler New Yorker, owned by Vonda Turner, on April 11.
ACCIDENTS
Parking lot mishap
On Friday, according to Sgt. Jerry Shelton, two
vehicles collided on Hwy. 321 at the O'Reilly's Auto Parts parking lot.
According to Shelton, the accident occurred when Henry Reus, 44, 7088 Armory
Road, Newport, driving a 1992 Honda Accord, attempted to enter the parking lot
and pulled into the path of a 2003 Ford Expedition driven by Melinda Lowasser,
30, 2689 Doe Branch Road, Marshall, North Carolina, as Lowasser attempted to
exit the parking lot. Reus was cited for driving on a suspended license.
Another parking lot mishap
On Saturday,
Sgt. Jerry Shelton responded to a two-vehicle collision on Hwy. 25/70.
According to Shelton, the accident occurred when a 1994 Chevrolet Camaro,
operated by Lisa D. Vick, 25, 647 North Hwy. 340, Parrottsville, attempted to
enter Hwy. 25/70 from a parking lot, was struck by a 2004 Honda Element, driven
by Hubert E. Lichlyter, 87, 2630 Indian Creek Road, Dandridge, as Lichlyter
started to enter the parking lot.
