Jewelry lifted from Old Newport Highway

 

Wednesday, Lt. Rick Laws filled out an offense report made by Christine Fine, 60, 1705 Old Newport Highway, Newport, concerning the theft of a diamond bracelet, nugget and $100 bill from her residence on March 27. According to the report, Fine stated that around 12 a.m. on March 27, her son reportedly had a seizure, forcing her call 911. While paramedics were on scene, a woman reportedly went inside Fine’s home and stole the above-listed items, valued at $3,700, from her purse.

 

 

Verbal exchange

 

Wednesday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an incident report made by Martin Adkins, 51, 2806 Early Road, Newport, concerning a vehicle that nearly struck him and verbal threats from the driver. According to the report, Adkins stated he was traveling south on the Old Cosby Highway in his vehicle when a Green Kia Sportage passed and nearly struck him on a double-yellow line. Adkins told Crum he had to leave the roadway to avoid being hit. Adkins followed the Kia to Limestone Road. When the vehicle stopped, Adkins reportedly attempted to talk to the driver, who reportedly threatened to fight him.

 

 

Dump truck title switched

 

Wednesday, Dep. Brian Holt filled out an incident report made by Edward Parks, no age given, P.O. Box 60, 4557 Asheville Highway, Del Rio, concerning the alleged theft of his forklift and the swapped title of a 1986 dump truck. According to the report, Parks told Holt a woman and a man transferred the title of his 1986 dump truck into their names and removed it from the possession of the owner he recently sold the vehicle to. Parks stated the new owner of the vehicle reportedly stole a forklift from his farm in Parrottsville and will not return it.

 

 

Under construction, under investigation

 

Tuesday, Dep. Alton Cureton filled out an offense report made by Jimmy E. Arrowood, 53, 1677 Shale Road, Newport, concerning the theft of several items from a residence he is constructing on 118 Forrest Lake Way, Newport. According to the report, Arrowood stated a 250-foot electrical cord, rubber ridge, five pounds of nails, one bath tub and 20 2X4X10 studs were taken from the construction site. The estimated value of the stolen items is $495.

 

 

Wallet missing

 

Wednesday, Sgt. David Crum filled out an incident report made by Mary Sue Norwood, 60, 1120 Camellia Road, Newport, concerning her lost wallet. According to the report, Norwood stated she believes it was lost somewhere between Parrottsville and her home. Norwood isn’t sure whether she left it on top of her vehicle or if it was taken. Her wallet contained her driver’s license, cash, Social Security card and personal identification. Norwood reportedly had her credit cards cancelled. The wallet is black leather and has two zipper compartments.

 

 

Newport resident traces ID theft to Texas

 

Friday, April 18, Chief Detective Robert Caldwell filled out an incident report made by Mary Anne Moyers, 73, 1608 Old Newport Highway, Newport, concerning identity theft. According to the report, Moyers told Caldwell she was informed by the IRS that someone employed by the Jalapeno Tree Holdings Co., 11488 Luna Road, Dallas, Texas, had been using her Social Security number.

 

 

Xbox, pills and DVDs taken

 

Wednesday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to the residence of Charles Andy Newman, 40, 150 Arc Road, Del Rio, on a call concerning the theft of several items from his home. Upon arrival, Hartsell spoke with Newman who said he left his home on Tuesday around 3 p.m. to visit his aunt. When Newman returned home around 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, he noticed his backdoor was open. Newman noticed several items were missing from his residence. According to the report, the suspect(s) stole an Xbox, assorted DVDs and several types of pill-form medication. The estimated value of the stolen items is $408.35.

Reported trespasser

 

Wednesday, Patrolman Donald Coakley responded to a trespassing call made by Ada James, no age given, 299 Dykes St., Newport, concerning an unwanted 23-year-old black male on the property of Manor Apartments. Upon arrival, Coakley was told by James that a tenant had informed her the man was on the apartment grounds. James stated she advised the male not to be on the property several times but he continues to return. Police later located the man.

 

 

Litter bug reported

 

Wednesday, Patrolwoman Donna Hopkins filled out an offense report made by WNPC news editor Ray Snader, 377 Graham St., Newport, concerning a white female, 20s, who threw paper out of her silver-colored Nissan Altima. Snader reportedly followed the woman and observed her throwing more paper out of the Altima. The vehicle is registered to a Sunset Gap Road resident.

 

 

Cell phone reported stolen

 

Wednesday, Patrolwoman Amy Elswick responded to a call made by Lorender Carder, no age given, 715 Eighth St., Newport, concerning the theft of a cell phone. Upon arrival, Elswick spoke with Carder who stated her son went to a friend’s house on Fifth Street Saturday. The friend reportedly asked to see Carder’s son’s cell phone, then placed it in his pocket. When Carder’s son asked for the phone, the friend reportedly said he gave it back to him. Carder reportedly spoke with the 14-year-old suspect’s parents who denied having the phone.

 

 

Theft of services

 

Wednesday, Patrolwoman Donna Hopkins filled out an incident report made by Kathy Brooks, no age given, at the Newport Family Dental Care office located at 164 Old Cosby Highway, Newport, concerning the alleged theft of services by a 25-year-old Lincoln Avenue resident. According to the report, Brooks told Hopkins the 25-year-old came to the office Jan. 16, and made an appointment for March 12. Brooks signed a payment agreement form, which said $1,452 was due March 12. The suspect did not have a credit card or check to pay with but reportedly said she would bring the payment back. Brooks told Hopkins the woman has neither contacted her nor the practice.

 

 

Ranger and Camry collide

 

Wednesday, Sgt. Scott Lamb was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident on North Street. According to the report, Ronnie T. Samples, 21, 1342 Edwina-Bridgeport Road, Newport, was traveling south on North Street in a 1994 Toyota Camry when a 1994 Ford Ranger driven by Jason E. Gorrell, 36, 556 Talley Road, Parrottsville, turned left from North Street and into the path of Sample’s vehicle causing the two to collide.

 

 

Ford backs into PT Cruiser

 

Tuesday, Patrolman Brad Ball was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident near the East Broadway branch of the National Bank of Tennessee. According to the report, Kenneth T. Myers, 25, 2505 Hemlock Road, Newport, backed his 2006 Ford F-250 from a parking space and struck the driver’s-side door of a 2003 Chrysler PT Cruiser driven by Audrey Blanchard Jones, 56, 395 Lennox Road, Newport, while she was stopped for traffic at the intersection of Mims Avenue and Broadway.

 

 

Sonoma Blazed

 

Wednesday, Patrolman Derek Wright was dispatched to a two-vehicle accident at the Wal-Mart parking lot. According to the report, Heather Michelle Barnard, 25, 4371 E. Highway 25/70, Del Rio, was driving across the parking lot in her 1996 Chevrolet Blazer when she struck the side of a 2003 GMC Sonoma driven by David Alford Parton, 56, 152 Estie Way, Newport.
