Cosby Ruritan Club Ramp Festival set for Sunday

COSBY--Cosby Ruritan Club's 55th annual Ramp Festival isset for Sunday, May 4, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Kineauvista Hill.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 12and younger.

According to event coordinator Kathy Cody, the festivalwill feature craft vendors, beauty pageants, entertainment, children'sactivities, and lots of food.

"There will be something for everyone," Codysaid. "We encourage everyone to come out and join us for a fun-filledday."

"You can get a full day of entertainment and funwith one small admission fee," she explained. "And 100 percent of theprofits will go back into the community."

She explained Cosby Ruritan Club would use the proceedsfor various community service projects, including scholarships and helpingfamilies in need.

A variety of food, including barbecue chicken plates,ramps and eggs, fried cornbread, soup beans, barbecue sandwiches, and hot dogswill be available.

Entertainment Coordinator Penny Grooms said, "Thisyear's entertainment lineup is sure to please."

Entertainment will start at 10 a.m. on the lower stage.

Long Shot, a southern rock and country band, will performat 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Steve Brown and Hurricane Ridge, a bluegrass group, willperform at 11 a.m. and 4 p.m.

At noon, the Maid of Ramps pageant, hosted by PrestigiousPageant Productions and sponsored by The Newport Plain Talk, will be held. Thepageant has 20 contestants ages 16 to 21 this year.

Then, at 1:15 p.m., the Stony Creek Cloggers will take tothe stage.

Local contemporary Christian singers 2 By Grace will singat 3 p.m.

On the upper stage, Matthew Malone, of Parrottsville,will sing at 10 a.m. Newcomer Chrystal Lee will then sing at 11 a.m.

Last year's favorite, Randall Reece, will perform at11:45 a.m. Wanda Todd, of Murfreesboro, will sing at 12:45 p.m.

Local duo Margie Lee and Missy Ellis will sing at 1:15p.m.

Then, at 2 p.m., the children's beauty pageants will beheld on the upper stage.

"Be sure and come early and play to stay allday--rain or shine--for great singing and entertainment," Grooms said.
