High School, Middle School, Elementary School fall sports preparations happening now

Cocke County High School Athletics

PHYSICALS

Physicals for all fall sports for Cocke County High School and Cocke County Middle School athletics will be held on Wednesday, July 16th at 5 p.m. The physicals will take place at the high school and are free of charge. These physicals are intended for any 7th-12th graders who will play any sport for either athletic program. Also, 7th and 9th graders getting physicals need to bring a copy of their immunization records in order to receive a physical.

FOOTBALL START UP

Cocke County High School football coach Casey Kelley has announced the start of fall practice for the Fighting Cocks. 2008 season preparations will begin for the varsity and freshmen teams on Thursday, July 24th. Anyone interested in freshmen football should report to Hedrick Field on July 24 at 6 p.m. Those interested in varsity football should report to the stadium at 7 p.m.

Cosby High School Football

Cosby High School football physicals will be given on Monday, July 21, starting at 4 p.m. at the school. Parents and players are encouraged to pick up forms before the physicals so all information needed by the physician is complete. Forms will be available at the Cosby High School football field Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4-6 p.m. All incoming 9th graders must have a complete physical from their family doctor. Forms are also available at the football field at the above listed days and times.

Cosby High School football coach Tyler Shelton has announced the start of fall practice for the varsity Eagles. Players are to report on Sunday, July 27, at 3 p.m. for the three-day overnight camp at the school. Team pictures will be taken on August 6. The squad will scrimmage at Hancock County on August 8 at 6 p.m., and at West Greene on August 12 at 6 p.m. The squad will participate in the KFL Jamboree on August 14 at Knox Central, and will play Hardin Valley High School. Game time and ticket sales will be announced soon.

Cosby Middle School Football

Cosby Middle School football sign-ups will be held Thursday and Friday, July 17 and 18, at Cosby High School Pavilion from 5-7 p.m. Equipment will be issued on Thursday and Friday, July 24 and 25, at Cosby High School from 5-7 p.m. The first practice is slated for Monday, July 28. All prospective players must have a physical before equipment can be issued, and all incoming 7th graders must have a complete physical from their family doctor. Forms for these physicals will be available at the Cosby High School football field Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 4-6 p.m.

EDGEMONT FOOTBALL & CHEERLEADING

Edgemont Football and Cheerleading will be having sign-ups on Thursday, July 17, and Friday, July 18. Eligible children must be five years of age by August 1, 2008, and up to the 8th grade. Edgemont has three divisions of Little League and a 7th-8th-grade team. Sign-ups will be held at Edgemont football field, next to the elementary school, from 5-8 p.m. on all dates listed. Newport Little League Football

Newport Little League Football will hold registration Monday through Friday, July 28-August 1, from 6-8 p.m. at the Newport City Park football field. The cost will be $55 for each child with discounts for siblings who are playing. A copy of the player's birth certificate is required. Here are the following age groups: Grasscutter's; 5-7 years old, Super Grasscutter's; 8-9 years old, and Pee Wee's; 10-11 years old. Additionally, we are looking for three parents or guardians to join our Board. Cocke County High School Volleyball

Cocke County High School volleyball tryouts for an 8th grade girls interested in playing volleyball will be held Monday through Thursday, July 14-17, from 8-10 a.m. each day in the Cocke County High School Gymnasium.

Cosby High School Volleyball

Cosby High School volleyball practice will begin on Monday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays through August 1. August 4 will start 3:30-5:30 p.m. daily. Practices will be held at Cosby High School Gymnasium. Also, There will be an Alumi Volleyball game on August 14 at 6 p.m. Anyone who has played volleyball for Cosby and graduated please call the school  at (423) 487-5602 or coach Lisa Coffey (423) 329-9276.

Cocke County Lady Red Softball

The 2008 Cocke County High School Lady Red Softball Camp will be held Monday and Tuesday, July 28-29, and Thursday, July 29, from 6-8 p.m. at Lady Red Field. The camp is open to upcoming 5th through 9th graders. The camp fee is just $10, and includes a T-Shirt and pizza party on the last day of the camp.

Rooster Boosters announce membership packages

The Cocke County High School Rooster Boosters club has announced its membership packages for the 2008 season. The club is offering five levels of membership, with packages ranging from $20 to $250. The Club level package starts at $20 and includes a booster club t-shirt, name recognition on the game night roster and eligibility for door prizes during varsity games. The White Package is a $50 package including all of the benefits of the Club package and one season pass to the varsity games. The Black Package is $100 and includes two season passes, two booster shirts, a parking pass, names on a booster banner and game night roster and eligibility for varsity game door prizes. The Platinum Package is $175 and offers all the amenities of the Black Package, except with three season passes and three booster shirts, along with one "Family Events Pass" that is good for all home middle school, freshman and junior varsity games. The Big Red Package is $250 includes all of the advantages of the Platinum Package, except with four season passes, four booster shirts and two parking passes. Rooster Boosters is the new booster organization that is backing Cocke County High School Football.
