NEWPORT-Every entrant in The Newport Plain Talk Football
Contest for Week 6 had a winning record. And, it was a fight to the end among
five of our contestants, all of whom went a perfect 10-0. Of the rest of our 78
contestants this week, 28 went 9-1, 31 went 8-2, 13 went 7-3 and one went 6-4.
Since we had five contestants tied at 10-0, we went to
the tie-breaker, which was the Tennessee-Northern Illinois total points. Each
of our contestants picked Tennessee, but Tracy Williams of Newport was closest
to total points (Tennessee won it 13-9) with a guess of 35.
As our week 6 winner, Tracy will be picking up some great
weekly prizes, including a $10 gift certificate from Pizza Plus, located at 733
Cosby Highway in Newport, and one free movie rental compliments of Movie Time
Video, located at 150 East Broadway in Newport.
The toughest pick this week was the Vanderbilt-Auburn
game, which Vandy won 14-13 to remain undefeated on the season. Some went with
Wisconsin over Ohio State, but the Buckeyes pulled it out late 20-17. And, on
the high school level, a tough pick between Morristown West and Morristown
East. The big rivalry went East's way Friday night, 21-14.
