Williams rolled from hay with charges
Monday, Sgt. Armando Fontes was dispatched to 585
Fairview St., Newport, on a call concerning an intoxicated male who had
allegedly assaulted a 34-year-old woman a couple days prior. Upon arrival,
Fontes spoke with the woman, who stated Freddy L. Williams, 55, address not
listed, had allegedly assaulted her a couple days prior to the call. The victim
further stated that Williams was on her property intoxicated when she came home
and was in a barn belonging to a neighbor approximately 30-yards away from her
property. Deputies went to the barn and found Williams “passed-out” on some hay
bales. Williams reportedly had slurred speech, smelled strongly of alcohol and
was trespassing. Deputies escorted Williams back to the victim, whose boyfriend
provided a statement saying he witnessed Williams punch and kick the woman.
Williams was arrested on charges of public intoxication and simple assault.
Failure to appear in juvenile court, pay child
support
Saturday, Constable Roger Henderson arrested Terry
Fain, 48, 586 Lucia St., Newport, on charges of failure to appear in juvenile
court and failure to pay child support.
Marijuana change
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes, along with Constable
Nathan White, was patrolling the Knob Creek community when he observed a 1998
Cadillac Cateria being driven without a license plate. Fontes stopped the
vehicle and spoke to the driver, Jeremy Livingston, 25, 1066 Phillips Hollow
Road, Bybee, who reportedly smelled slightly of alcohol. Fontes also noted some
beer bottles were in the passenger-side floorboard of the Cadillac. Fontes
asked Livingston to exit the car and frisked the driver. In addition Fontes
obtained consent from the driver to search the vehicle and found approximately
three “very small marijuana plants.” Fontes asked the Livingston for consent to
search his pockets, which the driver consented to. When Livingston turned
around and spread his feet apart, “a large clump of plant material fell from
his short’s leg.” The plant material was noted as approximately 31-grams of
marijuana. Livingston was arrested on a charge of simple possession of
marijuana.
Medication stolen, property vandalized
Monday, Dep. David Crowder was dispatched to the
home of Author Stokely, 71, Odyssey Road, Del Rio, on a call concerning the
burglary and theft of items from his home. Upon arrival, Crowder spoke with
Stokely, who stated he had spent the night with a friend and when he returned
home, he discovered someone had broken into his home and stolen his medication.
Stokely stated the thief/thieves forced open two backdoors to gain entry to his
home. The estimated value of the stolen medication and damaged doors is $723.
Nickel-plated .22 rifle stolen from home
Sunday, Lt. Richard Caldwell filled out an offense
report made by Betty Pack, 54, 1166 Pack Road, Newport, concerning the theft of
a .22-caliber nickel-plated rifle missing from her residence. Pack stated the
rifle had been purchased from Wal-Mart and that she would visit the store to
obtain the firearm’s serial number. Three possible suspects were listed on the
report. The estimated value of the stolen rifle is $575.
Items swiped from pickup, recovered down the road
Saturday, Dep. Derrick Webb filled out an offense
report made by Jennifer Holt, 28, 130 Highway 160, Newport, and Kevin Holt, 30,
same address, concerning the theft and recovery of several items from their
2000 Ford F-150 pickup truck. According to the report, the victims stated they
went to bed around midnight on Saturday and around 9:30 a.m., they discovered
their pickup had been entered and their checkbook, credit cards, gun permit,
driver’s licenses, debit card, Social Security cards, pocket book and brown
leather wallet had been taken from the vehicle. The property, valued at $155, along
with the vehicle’s owner’s manual, was discovered a short distance down the
road and recovered. Detective Bryan Murr was requested to dust the vehicle for
fingerprints. Charges are pending upon further investigation.
Pocketbook pilfered from parked vehicle
Saturday, Sgt. Tony Whitten filled out an incident
report made by Jessica Allen, 26, 101 Volunteer Way, Newport, concerning the
theft of her pocketbook from her vehicle while it was parked at a residence off
Highway 170. According to the report, Allen stated someone stole the pocketbook
between 4 and 6 a.m. while it was parked at 171 Highway 170. The pocketbook is
light green in color and its contents included a wallet, driver’s license,
Social Security card, Kodak camera, debit card, checkbook and a copy of a
nursing license. The estimated value of the stolen property is $330.
Ford focuses on canine
Friday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to a
one-vehicle accident off Highway 73. According to the report, Jeffery Ball, 43,
1197 Edwina-Bridgeport Road, Newport, stated he was driving south on Highway 73
in his 2007 Ford Focus when a dog ran in front of his car. The Focus received
minor damage from the accident.
Object in flatbed strikes S-10 windshield
Saturday, Dep. Randall Hartsell was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on Carson Springs Road. According to the report, Joshua
Aaron Hunt, 16, 101 N. Highway 340, Parrottsville, stated he was driving a 2001
Chevrolet S-10 on Carson Springs Road when he passed an older-model blue Ford
flatbed pickup truck, which had an object in its bed that struck the windshield
of the Chevrolet. Hunt sated the vehicle’s driver failed to stop.
Flatbed strikes Suburban on Carson Springs Road
Saturday, Dep. Joseph Owings was dispatched to the
Midnight Rodeo parking lot on a call concerning a two-vehicle accident. Upon
arrival, Owings spoke with Dustin M. Bible, 26, 443 Orchard View Drive,
Newport, who stated he was traveling north on Carson Springs Road in his 1998
GMC Suburban when he met an older-model flatbed pickup truck, described as blue
in color, traveling without headlights. When the truck passed Bible, the
Suburban was struck by something in the vehicle’s bed struck the SUV’s hood,
windshield, and backdoor. Bible stated the truck’s driver did not stop. The blue
flatbed reportedly has a front bumper that has been described as either green
or yellow in color.
Ford mirrors clip on 25/70 bridge
Saturday, Sgt. Armando Fontes was dispatched to a
two-vehicle accident on West Highway 25/70. According to the report, both
Anthony Olson Seay, 49, 711 N. Whispering Oak Circle, and Melanie Elizabeth
Glass, 33, 1275 Indian Road, Newport, were passing each other in opposite lanes
on a narrow bridge when the driver’s-side mirrors of Seay’s 2005 Ford F-150 and
Glass’s 2001 Ford clipped. Glass suffered a minor cut to her face from debris.
Both drivers stated they were in their lane of travel when the accident
occurred. Fontes noted the width of the bridge and the size of the vehicles was
a contributing factor in the accident.
Ford backs into Toyota
Saturday, Lt. Jonathan Morgan filled out a
two-vehicle accident report at 137 Roy Road, Cosby. According to the report,
Homer C. Allen, 65, 3271 Cosby Creek Way, Cosby, was backing his 2001 Ford
truck from the Roy Road residence’s driveway and struck the front of a 2000
Toyota van owned by Thomas D. Ball, 216 S. Highway 32, Cosby.
Police
Camry vandalized at Tanner Building
Saturday, Patrolman Travis Gorrell was dispatched to
the Tanner Cultural Center on a call concerning the vandalism of a 1998 Toyota
Camry owned by Heathery Ivy, 18, Circle Road, Newport. Upon arrival, Gorrell
observed the back driver’s-side window of the Toyota had been shattered. A
22-year-old white female reportedly admitted to vandalizing the window with a
brick. In addition, Ivy stated she was allegedly assaulted by a female
passenger riding in the alleged offender’s vehicle. The estimated cost of
damage to Ivy’s car is $300.
Renter runs off with property
Friday, Patrolman Jason Smith was dispatched to a
rental home at 248 Greggs Lane, Newport, owned by Sue McMahan, 64, 3007 W.
Walnut St., Johnson City, on a call concerning the theft of several items from
the residence. Upon arrival, Smith spoke with McMahan, who stated she let a
38-year-old white female rent the Greggs Lane home from her for the past two
years and that after the woman moved out, she discovered a humidifier, two
stack heaters and two metal chairs had been stolen from the residence. In
addition, McMahan stated two windows were broken and the home’s carpet was
damaged. The estimated value of the stolen items and the damaged property is
$1,490.
Lexus 300 recovered at Ruby Tuesday’s lot
Sunday, Sgt. Scott Lamb was dispatched to the Ruby
Tuesday’s parking lot on a call concerning an individual who was “passed-out in
front of a vehicle in front of the restaurant.” Upon arrival, Lamb found Shawn
Christensen, no age or address given, behind the wheel of the Lexus, which is
owned by Billy Massengil, 37, 508 Paintbrush Way, Newport, who had reported the
vehicle stolen Sept. 3. Massengil told Lamb he told Lt. Jason Ramsey that he
had retrieved his Lexus and alleged Ramsey told him he would have it taken out
of the NCIC computer. Ramsey was contacted by Lamb and stated he knew nothing
of a conversation between himself and Massengil. Christensen was arrested on a
charge of public intoxication.
