NEWPORT-Cocke County Sheriff's Department Detective and Auto Theft Specialist John Carrell, identified three stolen vehicles recently that had been towed to Newport Raceway.
On Monday, Carrell identified two vehicles reported stolen to the White Pine Police Department. The first was a burned Dodge 3500 dually pickup that had been brought in by CCSD Sgt. Tony Whitten. The pickup's owner, Michael L. Evans, of Indian Ridge Road, in Blaine, reported the Ram stolen from the Great Smoky Mountains Expo Center on Jan. 24.
The detective also identified a burned Chevrolet Trailblazer owned by a Greeneville resident, who reported the vehicle stolen to White Pine authorities after it was taken from an Old Dominion trucking company parking lot.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee owned by Stanley Jenkins, Apple Valley Way, Newport, was also recovered by Whitten and identified by Carrell on Monday. Jenkins reported the SUV stolen to the CCSD on Oct. 23, 2008.
Carrell used the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Insurance Crime Bureau (NICB) and secondary VIN plates to help identify the owners of the recovered vehicles.
